"What the hell?"
My voice echoed in the empty room, the sudden coldness of the sheets only amplifying the emptiness she left behind.
As it all sank in, heat surged through me—not from the cold, but from the fire of anger that lit in my chest. It burned hotter with every passing second.
"How dare you, Catherine Ortiz?" I hissed, the words sharp and venomous on my tongue. "I'm not one of your... your flings."
I knew she wasn't in her right mind, but it didn't excuse this. It didn't excuse her pushing me away like I'm just one of her one-night stand. Like I was just another body to be discarded when she was done. I'm her wife for fuck sake. I'm fully aware of our arrangements, she doesn't have to remind me, but it doesn't mean she could do whatever she want. The thought twisted in my gut, tightening with a mix of hurt and rage.
I threw the covers aside and stood up, my legs still trembling from the intensity of what had just transpired. Even in my anger, I couldn't shake the memory of how she made me feel. Every time. No matter how many times she made me come, she always made it feel like the first.
"God, Catherine," I whispered under my breath, fumbling as I dressed. "You'll be the death of me.
I stormed out of the room, determined to find her, to confront her. She could play this game with anyone else, but not with me.
But as I reached her room, my steps faltered, the door is slightly open. I heard it—a soft, almost inaudible sob, cutting through the quiet.
Never ever in my life I saw her cry. If I recalled correctly, not even when her parents died. I'm froze in place didn't know what to do.
While I'm still contemplating, I heard Catherine's voice.
"Ma... Pa... why ? I can't... It's too much..." Her voice broke, trembling like she was fighting to keep herself together, each word spilling out in fragments, as if speaking them aloud might tear her apart.

"Hi beautiful, is this seat taken?" a woman's voice floated over to me, light and teasing.
I didn't bother turning around. I'd lost count of how many times people had tried to flirt with me since I sat by the pool. Each attempt only heightened my irritation. I wasn't in the mood for attention, and I certainly didn't want another stranger disturbing my already fragile peace. My thoughts were a tangled mess, and I came down here to sort through them, not to entertain anyone's advances.
I sighed, running my fingers through my hair, ready to snap at whoever it was to leave me alone. Maybe I should just go back to the room—this was starting to piss me off. When I finally turned, sharp words on my tongue, they were immediately disarmed by the sight of Louisa's smiling face.
"Louisa!" I exclaimed, half-laughing at the near-shout that had almost left my mouth.
"So, may I sit here, ma'am?" she asked again, this time with a playful glint in her eyes.
"Oh, shut up, Lou. Just sit," I muttered, but I couldn't help the smile that tugged at my lips. She laughed at my response, her warmth cutting through the irritation that had been clinging to me all day.
"Must've been a bunch of admirers trying their luck, huh?" she teased, her eyes sparkling knowingly.
"They were stupid, none of them seem to get the hint that I want to be alone," I hissed, shaking my head.
Louisa stretched out in the chair beside me, her casual presence calming. "By the way, Nat—Cate and you? You've made every entertainment magazine headline. You two are sweeping the spotlight again."
