LUTE'S POV
It's been about a week since I started secretly dating Emily. Being with her is just as amazing as I thought it would be. She has a way of making all of my problems disappear. I feel like I can be myself around her. Maybe she hasn't really seen the side of me that enjoys bloodshed... but I'm going to try to avoid her seeing that for a while. Killing demons gives me a thrill that I think would scare her away. All I want to do is protect her and keep her from harm's way.
I swore to myself that I wouldn't get with her. I know how many rules I'm breaking and I know I'm at risk of falling because of it. But you know what? I don't care. She's very quickly become my everything.
I feel my phone go off in my pocket and reach for it. It's a message from Emily. I smile and open the text.
Emily: Hey! Wanna meet up in an hour for dinner?
I immediately begin to type a response.
Me: Of course. I'd love to.
Emily: Okay! Awesome! See you then!  I'll get you from your room! I love you!!
Me: I love you too Em.
I walk to my room to get ready for dinner with my girlfriend. My girlfriend... that still sounds very unreal to me. I change out of my training clothes into a simple but pretty red dress. It's very form fitting and I haven't worn it in  quite some time.  The last time I wore it was my final  dinner with Adam before his passing. I put on some make-up, hoping I'm not overdoing anything. I want this to be perfect.
I feel truly  nervous for the first time in a while. It's strange, I'm starting to feel emotions that I haven't felt in months. People think I'm tougher than I really am. Yeah, I can definitely handle myself in a fight, but I'm weak when it comes to my emotions. Emily makes me unafraid to feel things. I don't have to be a mask of myself around her.
A little while later, there's a soft knock at my door. I open it to find Emily standing with a bright smile. She looks utterly stunning with her hair falling freely around her shoulders. She's in a beautiful blue dress that shows off her figure. I'm glad I'm not overdressed.
"Hi, you look great." I say feeling my stomach flutter nervously.
"You do too!" She puts her hands on my hips and kisses me softly.
"You ready to go Em?"
"Yup! I know just the place for us to go."
"As long as we don't get caught."
"Oh, lighten up Lute, I know what I'm doing." She giggles and takes my hand.
"Alright. I trust you." I smile and let her lead me out of the room.
EMILY'S POV

I take Lute to a small but elegant restaurant where I know no one will suspect anything.
"This is it!" I smile as I open the door for her.
"It's beautiful, Em." She smiles and noticeably starts letting down her guard.
I lead her over to a booth in the corner of the restaurant and sit down across from her.
We sit there in silence for several minutes. It wasn't awkward at all! It felt... comfortable!
After a while, Lute finally spoke.
"You know... I promised myself I'd never love anyone else again. Love only ever got me hurt. But Emily, with you it's different."
"It is?" That probably wasn't  the best thing to say to that but I push my own self-consciousness aside.
"It is. You don't have an image I need to maintain around you. You give me purpose. A reason to love."
"Oh Lute... I-I'm glad I can give you that. I've never felt like this around anyone."
"I guess we're just what the other needs then."
"You're right. We are."
"And I hope it stays that way..."
I knew there was more to that statement that she wasn't saying. I knew she was afraid that she would lose me as well.
"It will. I promise. And you know I hate to break a promise!"
I smile warmly at her. She leans across the table and kisses me deeply. I shut my eyes and let myself get lost in her.
Lute will forever be perfect in my eyes, and no matter what it takes, I am determined to let her learn that.
