The Springbok antelope (Antidorcas marsupialis), is known for its 'springing jumps' (pronks) and striking appearance, holds a special place in the heart of South Africans. It's a symbol of national pride, resilience, and unity.
This Antelope is found mainly in south and southwest Africa.
Springbok performs multiple leaps into the air, up to 2 m (6.6 ft) above the ground, in a stiff-legged posture, with the back bowed and the white flap lifted.
The common name "springbok", first recorded in 1775, comes from the words spring ("jump") and bok ("antelope" or "goat").
