Izuku's luck has never been that great. Being born quirkless and a lack of positive reinforcement in his life being just two things he had to deal with.
And then his mother, Inko Midoriya, suddenly began working a lot more. Like, a lot more. So much so that she'd only be seen at home once a week if Izuku was lucky. Which he wasn't.
He was alone on most days. He wanted to call and text Inko to ask how she was doing, but he didn't want to be a burden.
He curls up in a ball on the floor of his bedroom. He had been called that a lot. A burden. After his classmates caught wind of his mother's situation, they made sure to remind him every day that she was absent a lot more because he was quirkless.
Strangely, Bakugo was the exception to this. After Inko suddenly began working more, he started avoiding Izuku like the plague. He stopped talking and bullying him all together. And after the UA entrance exams had come and gone, he never saw him again.
'Great.' Izuku hits the side of his head on the floor. 'My only friend is avoiding me. Fantastic.'
He stares up at the ceiling. 'Am I really a burden?'
"Boo!"
Izuku screamed, leaping up into the air and to the other side of the room.
"Hi."
"A..." Izuku shakily pointed at the see-through figure. "A ghost...?!"
"Well, yeah, but..."
"What are you doing in my house?!" Izuku grabbed the object closest to him. A sock on the floor. "Get out!"
"Kid-"
"Get out!" Izuku threw the sock and bolted to his desk, grabbing a pencil holder. "Get out, or I'll call the police!"
Another ghost snorts, appearing next to the first one, appearing thoroughly unimpressed.
"Yeah, go ahead. We'll disappear, and you'll look stupid or crazy or both. And then we'll come back and try again."
Izuku stared at the pair.
"Well?" The second ghost asked.
Izuku slowly puts down his pencil holder.
"Great." He cleared his throat. "Hello. My name is En Tayutai. And the one next to me is Daigoro Banjo."
"Banjo is I!" Banjo points at himself, grinning. "And we-"
"And you have a quirk you shouldn't have." A third ghost appeared. And unlike the other two, he looked more like a flame than a human. "And you are going to give it back."
"Dude!" Daigoro huffed. "You aren't gonna show the kid your appearance?"
"No."
"We invaded his body," En states.
"No, we didn't. We just appeared here." He corrected. "And we are gonna quickly leave and go back to where we're supposed to be."
"What?" Izuku asked.
"True, but you don't have to be a dick about it." Daigoro said. "And you kinda just gave away the secret of One For All."
"What?"
"No, I didn't!" He shouted. "What I said could mean anything! And you just namedropped our quirk, and that we can be passed on."
"What?!"
"Mmm... nah, I don't recall doing that. You, on the other hand, just did." Daigoro jabbed smugly. "I didn't say anything about passing on. Good job, blabber mouth."
