"I dunno." Izuku answered flatly.
"You..." All Might reverts to his skeletal form and coughs. "What?"
"I don't know how I have this quirk. Kind of."
"What?" All Might repeated.
"Truth..." The detective said. "Kind of. It's one of those cases where they think they have a plausible truth but don't really know for certain, so they say they think they know what they don't actually know, you know?"
"Ok, ok." Nezu waved a paw. "Explain, Midoriya."
"One day, I kinda just received it. I was sitting in my room having a life crisis as all teenagers do when the 5th user appeared."
All Might's neck creaked like a large rusty machine with the way he leaned forward.
"What?"
"So can you like, form a sentence?" Izuku asked. "Or is it One Word Monday?"
"I don't it's Monday today, Mr. Midoriya." Nezu said politely.
"That's not the-" He sighed. "Anyway, the 5th, 6th, and I think the 2nd users appeared to me. They were confused as to how they got the quirk as well. I planned on eventually giving One For All back to you after the 2nd user bullied me relentlessly, but the first deemed me worthy of keeping it."
"Truth." The detective said. "Oh, I'm Naomasa Tsukauchi, by the way. I have a lie detector quirk."
"Really? And here I thought you were just saying the word "truth" at random intervals."
"Witty sarcasm aside, can you truly speak with the past users?"
"Yup. I can even use their quirks." Izuku walks out of his bindings with ease and shows them off.
"Fifth's Blackwhip," dark energy strands appeared from his fingers.
"Seventh's Float," Izuku hovers in the air.
"Sixth's Smokescreen," Pink smoked danced in his palms.
"I can use the fourth's Danger Sense, but I'm not in any danger, so..." And then he activates the super strength portion of the quirk. "And I can use the brute force that comes with it. It all came pretty easy, honestly."
Yagi's and Tsukauchi's jaws were on the floor. But the former said, "Wait, what about the second and third users?"
"I don't know their names or their quirks. They're mean to me, but I'll get through to them eventually."
"Right... so are you sure you don't know how you got One For All? Did anything happen to you before the past users appeared to you?" Yagi inquired.
"The past users think they know, and I disagree with them. It's ridiculous."
"Enlighten us. Our opinions may weigh things out for you." Nezu said.
"They believe my mom, Inko Midoriya, is the reason I have this quirk." Izuku said. "Her quirk is Attraction of Small Objects. They, the fourth in particular, think she has the power to steal quirks due to the quirk gene itself potentially falling under the "small objects" category."
"A potential quirk thief..." Yagi said wearily. He and Naomasa looked at each other and went back to Izuku. "Do you know where your mother is?"
"No."
Nezu and Yagi looked to Naomasa, who just shrugged.
"Can you call her?"
"I can, but she won't answer."
"Why?"
"Because she hasn't talked to me or even been home physically in years due to work. Or so she says." Izuku answered bitterly. "I have no idea if she's even alive. But, as unlikely as it is, she's the only person who would put this quirk in me. Everyone else in my life either doesn't care enough to bother with my existence, would keep One For All for themselves, or make sure I wouldn't get it at all."
