Alto reaching out to me was such a taunt. I couldn't wait to wipe the smirk off his face. He had no one to back him out here; he was just asking for a lot of angry families on his ass. This whole fiasco would be over soon, once I got my hands on him. He challenged my family; he took my brother away from me and tried to kill my wife and my son. No one could stop me from ending him. This meeting was a blood bath waiting. The only regret I had was not seeing Jada and Matteo, but I was coming home. If I saw them, it would be like I was saying goodbye.
"What do we know about the location?" I asked Ettore.
"It's located a bit outside of the industrial areas. It isn't completely secluded. So we can attract law enforcement."
"If this could be quiet, that would be ideal. But we should prepare to run and then lay low. We will likely leave the country," I added.
Ettore shook his head.
"I can restore my areas easily after this. The backup should focus on supporting until the fight starts. I want Alto handed to me alive. I want to be the one to end him. So getting rid of any support. We need to check as much of the area as we can."
"I have eyes already ahead of us scouting more. We are mostly working on the fly, so we need to be adaptive."
I nodded in agreement, and the car ride went quiet, until the sudden ring of a phone cut the silence. Ettore, who sat across from me, pulled his phone out of his suit pocket and answered the phone pretty quickly. He listened intently, his eyebrow raised, and he responded briefly.
"Alessio, there was an attack at the hotel."
"Is Jada okay?" I said quickly, sitting up in my seat.
"Justin says she is safe," Ettore added.
"We need to go back, turn around."
"What about the plan?"
"Turn the car around. Jada and Matteo are the most important things. Turn around." I demanded.
He sighted but sent out a text, and I felt the car turn around. Ettore looked annoyed as we headed back. He annoyed me; my concern was for my family. This is the second attempt. I couldn't leave without someone trying to get at us. My anger felt at an all-time high; I couldn't understand why I was falling so behind. I just needed to go check on her; I was supposed to be protecting her. —It felt like it took too long to drive there, and I ran as fast as I could to our room. I found the door wide open and empty until I saw Jada walk out of her room with Matteo in tow. We made eye contact, and she gave me a half-hearted smile. Behind her was Justin with a baby bag, traveling a bit too close for comfort.
"What happened, Jada?" I asked, looking over her face for any marks or bruises.
Our son clung onto her, nestled into her shoulder and clutching her blue t-shirt. I brought them into a soft hug, giving her a kiss on her forehead.
