Ethel was born in Bray, Ireland, a small town outside of Dublin in 1896. She is 21 in the beginning of this story. She has two brothers, one older, Robert Switzer, and one younger, Fred Switzer. Ethel also has an older sister, Gertrude Switzer. She is very smart and well educated although not having attended any fancy schools. She's a tomboy but loves the occasional makeup and nicely stitched dress. She's very funny and witty. She loves to dance and doesn't mind getting into a bit of mischief after a few drinks. She has a contagious laugh that makes the people around her smile. This was Ethel before the war. After high school she attended a nursing school, following in her older sisters footsteps. After Robert and Fred got shipped out to the war, Gertrude enlisted to be in the nursing service; Ethel again followed in her footsteps. Little did she know this would change the destiny of her life in more way than one.
