The chilly air of the Ruins nipped at your skin as you made your way through the quiet corridors. It had been a while since you last came here, but something about this place always drew you back. Maybe it was the history, the stories of what had happened here, or maybe it was because of the person who now walked silently beside you— Chara.

She had always been different, distant in a way that was hard to explain. There was a sharpness to her, an edge that set her apart from everyone else. But over time, you’d come to understand that beneath her tough exterior, there was something deeper— something she didn’t show to just anyone.

Chara walked slightly ahead, her red eyes scanning the empty halls as if looking for something, though you weren’t sure what. Her brown hair framed her face, and she wore that familiar green-and-yellow striped sweater, the one she always had on, no matter what. Her expression was unreadable, as usual, but you knew her well enough now to sense that she wasn’t in a bad mood. Just thoughtful.

"Why do you come here so often?" Chara asked, her voice cutting through the silence. There was no malice in her tone, just curiosity.

You thought about it for a moment before answering. "I’m not sure. I guess it reminds me of where everything started. Where I met you."

Chara glanced at you, a small, almost imperceptible smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "Hmph. I suppose that makes sense."

She didn’t say anything more, and the two of you continued walking in silence. It wasn’t uncomfortable, though. With Chara, silence was often more meaningful than words. She wasn’t one for idle chatter or meaningless conversation. When she spoke, it was usually because she had something important to say.

After a while, you both reached the spot where the golden flowers grew— where everything had begun for her. Chara stopped and stared at the flowers for a long moment, her expression unreadable.

"You know." she said quietly, "I used to hate these flowers."

You blinked, surprised by the sudden confession. "Really? Why?"

She knelt down, running her fingers lightly over the soft petals. "They reminded me of... failure. Of things that didn’t go the way they were supposed to." She paused, her fingers curling slightly around one of the flowers. "But now... I don’t know. They feel different. Less like a reminder of the past, and more like a symbol of something else."

You moved closer, kneeling beside her. "Like what?"

Chara looked at you, her red eyes piercing but not unkind. "Like change." she said softly. "Like a chance to do things differently."

You nodded, understanding what she meant. The two of you had been through a lot together, and while Chara still held onto some of her darker thoughts and memories, she was no longer consumed by them. She had chosen a different path— one that wasn’t filled with destruction and anger. And in a way, you had been part of that change.

"You’ve come a long way." you said gently. "We both have."

Chara’s gaze softened, and for the first time in a long while, she smiled— really smiled. It was a small, subtle thing, but it lit up her face in a way that made your heart skip a beat.

"I suppose we have." she admitted quietly. "But that doesn’t mean it’s easy."

You reached out and took her hand, your fingers brushing against hers. For a moment, Chara tensed, as if the gesture caught her off guard, but then she relaxed, letting your hand rest in hers. Her grip was firm, but not uncomfortable. It felt... grounding.

"It doesn’t have to be easy." you said softly. "We’ll figure it out together."

Chara didn’t say anything for a while, just stared at your hand holding hers. Then, slowly, she gave your hand a gentle squeeze, her expression softening further.

"Together." she echoed, her voice barely above a whisper.

The two of you stayed like that for a while, sitting by the golden flowers in silence, your hands still entwined. There was no need for more words. The bond between you and Chara wasn’t something that could be easily explained or defined, but it was there, strong and unbreakable.

Eventually, Chara stood, pulling you up with her. Her eyes had that familiar glint of determination in them again, but there was something else now too— a sense of calm, of peace.

"Come on." she said, her voice steady. "Let’s go. There’s no point in dwelling on the past anymore."

You smiled, giving her hand one last squeeze before letting go. "Lead the way."

And as Chara turned and began to walk back toward the entrance of the Ruins, you followed close behind, knowing that whatever the future held, you’d face it together.
