(IMPORTANT NOTE: This oneshot is about a wholesome friendship. No romance this time around. Hope you still enjoy!)
You were wandering through the bustling streets of Hotland, trying to figure out where to go next. The heat radiated off the walls, making the air shimmer, but you didn’t mind. What drew your attention was a pair of voices that grew louder as you approached a small shop tucked into a corner. The sound of giggling and excited chatter caught your ear.
As you rounded the corner, you found yourself face-to-face with Bratty and Catty, the two inseparable best friends who ran a little junk shop in the Underground. Bratty, the alligator girl with her edgy attitude and flashy style, was lounging lazily on a makeshift seat. Catty, the cat monster with a more relaxed demeanor but equally bubbly personality, sat nearby, fiddling with a small trinket in her paws.
"Oh my god, like, a customer!" Bratty was the first to notice you, her eyes lighting up as she jumped to her feet. "Catty, check it out!"
"Wowie!" Catty purred, joining her friend with a wide grin. "Hiya! Wanna buy something cool?"
You chuckled at their energy, waving. "Hey, I was just checking out the place. You two seem like you’re having fun."
"Duh!" Bratty said, flipping her hair back dramatically. "Hanging out with my BFF is always fun."
Catty nodded in agreement, her tail swishing behind her. "Totally! Bratty’s the best! We’re like, totally the coolest duo down here."
You smiled, taking in the playful banter between them. "You two seem close. How long have you known each other?"
"Like, forever!" Bratty declared, throwing an arm around Catty’s shoulders. "We’ve been BFFs since, like, before you were even born, probably."
"Yeah!" Catty chimed in. "We do everything together— talk, shop, and hang out. It’s the best!"
You could see the genuine bond between them, and it was clear they had the kind of friendship everyone wished they could have. Curious, you decided to hang around for a bit longer, joining in on their conversation.
"So, what do you guys usually do around here besides running the shop?" you asked.
Bratty grinned. "Oh my god, like, sooo much cool stuff! We look for awesome junk to sell, check out the latest fashion trends, and sometimes we even sneak out to do, like, super cool pranks."
"Yeah, like that one time we snuck into MTT Resort!" Catty giggled. "Bratty tried to prank one of the guards by swapping their food with a glitter bomb."
Bratty puffed up her chest proudly. "It was epic! Glitter EVERYWHERE."
You couldn’t help but laugh at the mental image. "Sounds like you two know how to have fun."
Bratty gave you a smug grin. "Of course! Life’s too short to be boring."
As the conversation continued, you found yourself slowly getting pulled into their dynamic. They had this infectious energy that made it impossible not to enjoy their company. You’d originally planned to just pass through, but their lively banter and easy-going nature made you stick around.
Over the next few days, you made a habit of stopping by their shop whenever you were in the area. Sometimes you’d just chat for a few minutes, other times you’d spend hours listening to their wild stories or helping them sort through new junk they found.
"You know," you said one afternoon as you helped Bratty and Catty organize some items. "I never thought I’d get to know you two this well. But I’m glad I did."
"Aww, you’re, like, totally awesome to hang out with!" Bratty said, tossing a half-broken lamp into the ‘sellable’ pile.
"Yeah!" Catty nodded, her tail flicking. "We don’t usually have many people who stick around to chat like you do. It’s been super fun!"
"I guess I’m officially a part of the Bratty and Catty fan club now." you joked.
"Uh, yeah! Duh!" Bratty laughed, giving you a friendly nudge. "You’re, like, one of us now."
It wasn’t long before you realized that your quick stops had turned into full-fledged hangouts with the two girls. You never really thought much about it, but you appreciated the friendship that had formed. They never took things too seriously, and being around them was a refreshing change of pace.
One day, while sitting outside the shop with them, Catty looked over at you with a curious expression. "So, like, do you think we’re weird?"
You blinked at the question. "Weird? No, not at all. Why do you ask?"
Bratty snickered. "Everyone down here thinks we’re, like, total weirdos because we love collecting junk and hanging out. But who cares? We’re cool, right?"
You smiled at them. "You two are definitely cool. You’re yourselves, and that’s what matters."
Catty grinned, clearly pleased by your answer. "Yeah! We knew you were awesome."
"Obviously!" Bratty chimed in, tossing a piece of scrap metal into the air and catching it. "That’s why we let you hang out with us!"
You laughed, shaking your head. "I’m lucky, then."
From then on, the three of you settled into a comfortable friendship. No matter how strange or chaotic life in the Underground could get, Bratty and Catty were always there to lighten the mood. Whether it was sharing wild stories, scouring Hotland for junk, or just hanging out, you knew you could always count on their fun-loving spirits to make the day brighter.
It was a friendship built on laughter, spontaneity, and a mutual love for all things strange, and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
