(A/N): I don't think I ever mentioned this, but I'm a huge fan of Undertale!! I've played this game at least a million times already! It's a very cool game that I keep revisiting every once in a while. Which is why I decided to start off this new oneshots book with an Undertale character! Hope you enjoy reading! :)

You open your eyes, blinking against the soft light filtering through the trees above you. Your head is spinning, and as you try to get your bearings, you remember falling. You fell, down into the mysterious mountain everyone in town warned you about, the one where people vanish and are never seen again.
Taking a breath, you stand up, wincing at the soreness in your body. The cavern you're in is quiet, except for the soft trickle of water somewhere in the distance. Gathering your courage, you begin to walk forward, through a tunnel that seems to stretch endlessly until-
"Hello? Is someone there?"
The voice is soft, motherly. You step through an archway into a room filled with warm light, and there she is: a tall, robed figure with kind eyes and a soft expression. A goat-like monster, but something about her doesn't inspire fear. Instead, there's a strange sense of comfort in her presence.
She smiles when she sees you, her voice gentle. "Oh my, are you alright, dear? You must have taken quite the fall."
You rub the back of your head, still processing the sight in front of you. "Yeah... I think I'm okay. Where am I?"
"You are in the Ruins, dear." she says, walking over to you. "My name is Toriel. I watch over this place, to make sure lost humans like you don't come to harm."
Toriel. The name sounds familiar somehow, like something out of a dream.
"Thank you." you say, offering a small smile. "I'm... uh, I'm not sure how I ended up here. I was just exploring the mountain, and then-"
"You fell." she finishes for you, nodding. "Many have done the same before you. But worry not, you are safe now."
You follow her as she leads you deeper into the Ruins, the ancient stone walls somehow cozy under her care. There's something about her that makes you relax, the way she carries herself with calm dignity, the softness in her words.
As you walk, she talks about the history of the Underground, the conflict between humans and monsters, and the barrier that traps them all here. You listen intently, captivated by both the story and the way she speaks. Her voice is like a lullaby, soothing in its simplicity.
When you reach her home, she invites you inside, offering you a place to rest. You sit down on a cushioned chair by the fire as she moves to the kitchen. The scent of butterscotch and cinnamon fills the air, making your stomach growl.
She chuckles, noticing. "I hope you don't mind, but I made a butterscotch-cinnamon pie earlier. Would you like some?"
You can't help but smile at the thought. "That sounds amazing, thank you."
As she serves you a slice, you take a bite and close your eyes, savoring the warmth and sweetness. It feels like home, like a memory from childhood, though you can't quite place it. Toriel sits across from you, watching you with a gentle curiosity.
"So," she begins, after a few moments of silence. "what will you do now?"
The question hangs in the air. You hadn't really thought about it. You'd been so focused on survival, on figuring out where you were, that the future hadn't crossed your mind.
"I don't know." you admit, setting the fork down. "I didn't plan to end up here."
Her eyes soften, and she leans forward slightly. "If you wish, you may stay here, at least for a while. You don't need to decide anything right away."
The offer surprises you, but there's a part of you that's tempted. There's something about Toriel, something comforting, and the idea of staying here- at least for a little while-doesn't seem so bad.
"I might take you up on that." you say with a chuckle, trying to ease the awkwardness you feel.
The days pass, and you find yourself growing accustomed to life in the Ruins. Toriel is kind and patient, always making sure you're comfortable. The conversations between you become deeper, more personal. She talks about her past, her people, and the deep pain she feels for what has happened to the monsters trapped here. In return, you share your own experiences, the mundane and the important.
You begin to notice the little things about her- how she hums to herself while cooking, how her eyes brighten when she talks about books, how her laughter sounds like music when you make a joke. There's a warmth in her presence that goes beyond kindness; it's as though she truly cares for you, not just as a human who stumbled into her care, but as someone she is growing fond of.
One evening, after dinner, you're both sitting by the fire, the crackling flames casting shadows on the walls. Toriel seems quieter than usual, her hands resting in her lap as she gazes into the fire.
"Is something on your mind?" you ask, concerned.
She hesitates, her fingers tightening slightly. "It's... difficult." she begins slowly. "to let someone into your life when you've lost so much."
You watch her carefully, sensing the weight behind her words. You've never asked her directly, but you know there's more to her story than she's told you.
"I care for you." she says softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I fear losing you, like I've lost others before."
Her vulnerability takes you by surprise, but you understand. She's been alone for so long, guarding herself against more pain. You reach out, gently placing your hand over hers.
"I'm not going anywhere." you say, your voice steady. "I don't want to leave."
Toriel looks at you, her eyes searching yours for any sign of uncertainty. When she finds none, she smiles- a small, fragile smile, but one filled with hope.
"Thank you." she whispers, her hand tightening around yours.
That night, something changes between you. There's a closeness now, a connection that wasn't there before. As you sit together, watching the fire burn low, you realize that this place, this moment, feels like home. Not because of the warmth of the fire or the comfort of the room, but because of her. Because of Toriel.
And as the days turn into weeks, that connection only grows stronger. You've found something here, something real- something worth staying for. And perhaps, just perhaps, she's found the same in you.
A new chapter in both your lives has begun, filled with warmth, care, and a budding love that neither of you expected but both of you needed.
