Ray walked toward me and grabbed my wrist, surprising me. Despite my shock, I followed him, knowing my place in Baldwin's mansion—nothing more than a slave to them. Ray began dragging me toward the venue, where a large cake was displayed in the center of the hall. Azar clenched his fists while watching us but still followed closely. I saw the red in his eyes. I knew things were going to turn bad, and I would be the target of whatever was about to happen after the party.
"Oh, here you are, son. I see Azar has introduced Eve," Mr. Win said, smiling as he approached.
"Yes, he has," Ray responded with a smirk as he glanced at me.
"Alright then, let's begin." Mr. Win handed Ray a knife.
Ray looked at the cake, then turned his gaze back to me. He grabbed my waist tightly and said, "Come here beside me," his dominating voice making me freeze. I glanced quickly at Azar, whose fists were now white with tension and whose eyes blazed with anger.
I swallowed hard and gathered the courage to speak softly, "Can you let me go?"
Ray stared into my eyes, his dark hazel ones cold. "No, I'm not letting you go again, Dove," he said firmly.
My eyes widened in confusion. What on earth was he talking about? I hoped no one had overheard. My gaze shifted nervously to Azar, whose expression had gone blank. I couldn't tell if he had heard what Ray said or not. I looked down at my feet, feeling utterly powerless. Let Ray do whatever he wants—why not? He's a Baldwin too, and I'm nothing but Baldwin property. I've been taught to follow their orders, not just Azar's, right?
I nodded and whispered, "Okay."
Ray smirked and cast a glance at Azar.
Mr. and Mrs. Win exchanged confused looks at Ray's behaviour toward me. Dax and Ahvi observed the scene silently, as usual.
Ray finally released me and spoke into the microphone: "May I have your attention, please." I was about to step away when he turned toward me again, his dark stare pinning me in place.
"Three years ago, I fell in love with a girl I called mine," Ray began, his eyes boring into me. I felt a shiver run through my body.
Mr. and Mrs. Win gasped at the sudden announcement, but within moments, their shock turned into smiles as they beamed at their son.
Meanwhile, Azar looked from Ray to me, and our eyes met. His expression was unreadable, his gaze emotionless.
Ray continued, "My Dove..." I frowned at the name. He'd called me that before, but it still made no sense.
"At first, her voice stopped my heart, and when I saw her, I knew she was what I wanted," Ray said, his voice cracking slightly as he looked down. His vulnerability piqued my curiosity—who was this girl?
"My heart ached for her, and in just five minutes, I lost her—my Dove, who stood before me. I lost her, Dad." Ray's voice wavered as he looked at his parents, tears filling his eyes.
"I spent three years away from you, Mom. I searched for her relentlessly. I need her, Dad. Please, give her to me," Ray begged, his tears flowing freely. But something in those tears unsettled me—they didn't seem genuine. It wasn't love that drove him; it was control, an obsession to possess this girl like she was some object, and it disgusted me.
Mrs. Win hugged Ray, crying over her son's heartbreak. I laughed bitterly to myself. I knew they would give him whatever he wanted, even if it was another person. Ray's sudden vulnerability shocked everyone, even Azar.
Mr. Win asked, "Ray, my son, why didn't you tell us?" His voice was soft, as if Ray were facing some dire problem. I rolled my eyes inwardly at the melodrama.
"Dad, I wanted to bring her here, as mine, to declare to the world that she belongs to me. I wanted to marry her in front of everyone," Ray said loudly, still shedding his crocodile tears. I couldn't help but feel pity for this girl who was about to become his next obsession.
Azar, however, seemed deeply unsettled by his brother's announcement. He hated the feeling it stirred in him—fear of losing something precious. He stood silently, his eyes fixed on eve . He wanted to take her away and keep her for locked right now.
"I'll bring her here for you, son," Mr. Win said coldly, his eyes full of determination.
Ray suddenly turned toward me and smirked. He quickly hid it before anyone else could notice. Disgusted, I scoffed and started walking toward Azar, not wanting to provoke him further.
"Please, give her to me, Dad. Please make her mine. I need her, Dad. I need her," Ray pleaded again, his words cutting through the air as I continued walking.
Then suddenly, he shouted, "I need her, Dad! I need ZEO EVELYN to be mine, Dad! I need Eve to be mine!"
His words froze me in place. My eyes widened, and my body trembled. I sank to the floor, my legs unable to carry me any further. I looked toward Azar, who was staring directly into my eyes, sending chills down my spine. This is wrong, so terribly wrong. Not me, not me again. Please, not me. I didn't— my tears quickly started falling.
I felt like nothing more than an object again—just as I had before. They made me feel worthless once more. A chuckle escaped from my mouth, even as I cried.
"The party is over; you may leave now," Dax said, prompting the guests to begin leaving.
I kept staring at Azar, unsure of what to think, unsure of what to feel.
Suddenly, Azar shouted, "No, no, no! You can't have her, brother! She's mine! I loved her first! Eve has been mine since the very first day Mom and Dad brought her here. Dad, tell him that she belongs to me. Please, Dad, I can't give my Eve to anyone. I love her—you know how much I love my bubble, my Eve. Please, Dad, tell him not to love Eve!" Azar said angrily, as tears poured from his eyes.
I just sat there, staring at the floor, not knowing whether I should run, speak, or stay silent. I chose silence—because who was I to say anything? I was just their possession; they could do anything to me, just like before. What the hell am I thinking about— a choice? Do I even have one? No.
