"Uhm, guys? Why is there a bunch of lavender on the doorstep?" asked Knuckles.

It was the next morning and everyone was awake except Tails. We decided it was best if we prepared to go to the new base and let him sleep a little longer. He is the youngest afterall. Me and Amy curiosity walked towards where Knuckles was to see what he was talking about. I looked over at the doorstep and saw some lavender wrapped around newspaper, being held together by some thin string. I looked at the other two, Amy with the same confused expression as mine and Knuckles just seemed unphased but he was staring at it and seemed to be thinking of possibilities or something. I slowly reached down and picked it up. The odor overwhelmed my nose with its delightful scent.

"Sooooo, anyone wanna speak up about their secret lover?" I said jokingly to the other two.
"Oooo! Knuckles tell us about her" Amy said, joining in the joke.
"What? I don't have a secret lover. If anyone were to have one it would most likely be Amy if we are being honest here." Knuckles said
"Oh come on! We haven't even found any other people that have survived like us." amy said, trying to defend herself.
"Alright, alright. We have to get to the other base as soon as possible to make it safer for us and set everything up. Amy, do you want your secret love's flowers?" I said with a chuckle while reaching my arm out towards Amy so she could take them.
"First off, yea you're right. Second, what! No, you keep them. I don't have a secret lover, weirdo." she said walking away.
"If you insist," I said, shrugging.

I walked back to the couch with the lavenders still in my hands and sniffed the flowers again. They smelled so good and looked so pretty. 'I wonder who it was meant for and who put 'em there.' I thought to myself, '..Wait, could it have been-'

"Morning" said Tails walking to the couch to sit next to me.
"Morning sleepy head, did you rest well?"
"Yea" he looked at the flowers then back at me. "Soooooooooo, who is she?" Tails said somewhat jokingly.
"She?? What? Oh. right, these aren't mine and they were not given to me. I think." I said, whispering the "i think" part. "They just appeared at the doorstep of the front door."
"Oh, weird"
"Yea, none of us really know why they suddenly appeared but they are pretty."
"Hm, I personally don't like the smell but if you say so" he said stretching and then he stood up, heading towards the bag of food. "Amy, did you pack any mints?"

I sighed and shaked my head. 'It's too early for mints' I thought to myself. I carefully placed down the flowers on the couch and got up.

"Are y'all ready to leave yet?"...

We had finally made it to the base. It was slightly bigger than our last base, when knuckles opened the door it let out a loudish creek. We are definitely going to have to fix that. By we I mean Tails, he's really the only one that knows how to do this kind of stuff correctly. We walked in and I made sure to close the door behind us. We all separated and explored the house. It had two floors like the other base, only that this one didn't seem to have a basement. I went upstairs and looked at the rooms. I found one with a big bed and automatically knew i had to dibs this one before it was too late. Just to make sure though i sat on the bed and made sure it was comfy enough for me, it was. I walked back to the door and leaned forward.

"I dibs this room!!" I yelled out so the others could hear.
"Which one?" Amy yelled back
"The one upstairs to the right!"
"Okay!"

I put my stuff down in a corner and took out the lavenders from my bag. I didn't want them to get too damaged. I placed them on the bed and went out of the room to keep exploring. Once I had explored the house I was happy with my choice of room. I walked back up to my room holding a glass vase with water to put the lavenders in. There was a small desk facing the window so I placed the vase with the lavender there. 'Alright. Time for some deep cleaning.' I thought to myself with a big sigh.

Once I finished cleaning the whole room I decided to call it a day. I felt so tired already. It was also quite late. I went downstairs to grab a water bottle from one of the bags, and as I went back up I said good night to everyone. I yawed as I entered the room and closed the door. I noticed there was a figure outside my window, a shiver went down my spine. I lit up a candle and saw that it was infected again. I moved the lavenders to the floor carefully and opened the window.

"Stop scaring me like this man, also how did you get up here??" I said. Honestly I didn't feel very surprised, I don't know what to expect from this man anymore. I helped him inside and he seemed to be holding something but I didn't pay attention to it. I looked out the window and saw a really long ladder. "Those exist that long?? Damn, okay then." I shrugged. The infected tapped my shoulder and I closed the window then looked at him."Do you need something?"

He reached out his hand. He was holding a few other lavenders. I was speechless. I could feel something warm in my chest grow. I stared at him and at the lavenders in his hand. I took them and could feel my face get slightly warmer as well. I didn't know how to respond. I made sure to delicately hold the lavender with both of my hands and continued to stare at the Infected as I felt the warmness I was feeling in my chest feel more.. Intense?. He stared right back. I think he was waiting for a response. I just wasn't sure how I was supposed to react though. I'm not familiar with this feeling. I couldn't help but smile.

"I- uh.. Thank you.." I stared at his eyes, which the hues of his were beautiful with the moonlight. I then broke it by looking at the vase with the other lavenders. "Was that you too?" I chuckled quietly. I looked back at him still smiling and a soft gaze. He did the same. He had a cut at the end of the left side of his lip that extended outwards so it made his smile look wider.
"I really app-"

"Sonic you okay in there bud? Who are you talking to?" interrupted Tails and he knocked on the door.
'Worst timing ever to worry about me Tails!.' I thought to myself. "Uhhh, no one sorry i was just talking to myself." I said as I hurried to the door and locked it.
"Are you sure? Why did you suddenly lock the door too?.." he said, sounding skeptical of my excuse.
"I was.. I am changing clothes and forgot to lock it, you just reminded me to do so."
"..okay, just go to sleep. Good night." He said, sounding upset.
I sighed and frowned.
"Sorry." I whispered.

I walked back closer to the infected. "Thank you, I think they are very beautiful." he tilted his head and smiled at me again. "I'm tired. I'm sorry. You should go." I said looking away. Honestly I didn't want him to go but I knew it would be the best choice. He slowly started to walk away towards the window. "Come back tomorrow? Please." I didn't get a response. He was gone now. I guess I'll just have to hope I didn't mess up and that he will come back. I want to give him something in return as a way of appreciation for the flowers.

I got into the bed and tried sleeping but I couldn't stop thinking of the interaction. I felt so irritated by myself because I was thinking of different ways I could have approached the situation and all the outcomes that would have happened.
