The dog days of summer have started. I am starting to wrap up filming for my TV show. It was the hottest it has ever been this entire summer. benny has yet to ask me to be his girlfriend even after we kissed. and today is the day molly moves out.

I quickly fan myself as sweat dripped down my neck. I braced myself as I picked up a large cardboard box that was marked "SHOES"
I walked outside as the blazing sun hits me.

molly and her boyfriend david were standing by the trunk of his car. it was a nice car. A black dodge.

david was a tall man who dressed like a cowboy. with tight jeans and a buttoned collard shirt with a big metal belt.
can't forget about his ray-bands and mustache that curled over his mouth.

"this should be the last box" I say as I struggle to carry it into the trunk

"alright let's get this show on the road" david says as he closes the trunk with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth.
david walked to the drivers seat and opened the door, molly however stayed where she was standing.
her hands were clasped together as she gave me a frowning smile. she then began to tear up and brought me in for a hug

"i'm gonna miss you roxy" she said behind broken words

"i'm gonna miss you to mol" i say squeezing her back.
it won't feel the same without her. my mother is gonna be twice as harsh on me now and have to obey her rules everywhere I go now.
molly then breaks the hug but grabs onto my shoulder, getting slightly lower to talk to me.
"if you ever need anything i'm just a call away okay?" she said with a red blotchy face and red teary eyes

"okay" i respond quietly

she flashes me a quick smile and walks around the side of the car and closes the passenger door.
the car quickly backs out of the driveway.
I wave my last final goodbye as they drive down the street.
I take a deep breath turning around to walk into the house.

my mother was sitting on the couch smoking a cigarette and watching the television.
"is she gone?"

i close the door quietly behind me
"yep"

she snickers to herself as she blows cigarette smoke out of her mouth.
she was clearly mocking my sadness because i walked in with puffy eyes and a red nose.
i began walking down the hallway and into my room before i heard a knock at the door.

before I could turn around and answer it my mother already got it herself.

"oh.. hi Ms.Watson i'm dawn!" i heard from the door.
my mother angrily stared at her with the cigarette hanging out of her mouth.
"who are you?"

"it's fine" i say schooching in the doorway as my mother scoffs and walks away

"whatsup dawn?"

"there's a carnival tonight downtown.. everyone's at my house right now.. wanna hang?"

I looked back at my mom then looked back at dawn.
"dawn I dont know.. I really want to but my mother is gonna freak out if i ask her"

dawn clasps her hands together and flashes me puppy dog eyes
"please roxanne this is one of the last nights i'll be with you"

I scoffed at her bad attempt of trying to convince me but i fell for it anyway.
"fine.. but don't be surprised if she says no"

I turned around and slowly walked in the living room where my mother was sitting.
"is it ok if i go hang out with my friends for a bit?" i ask quietly

she turns her head at me and takes the cigarette out of her mouth.
"is it ok? of course it's not okay you have to go on set tomorrow?"

"it's my last day of shooting tomorrow it really doesn't matter?"

"if it doesn't matter so much might as well just quit acting while your at it!" she yells

"yeah whatever" i say quietly to myself.
she takes another long drag from her cigarette as i turn around and head for the door.

"if you leave this house you will be grounded for the rest of your life"

I looked back at her to see her staring at me angrily. then looked at dawn who seemed concerned on to what's going on inside the house.
I then ran out the door and grabbed dawns hand as we ran as fast as we could down the street. we couldn't help but laugh at how fast we were running. are stomach started to ache from laughing and are legs started to hurt from running.

I bent over trying to catch my breath but laughing at the same time. dawn hunched over as-well.
we finally caught our breath and wrapped our arms over each other and started to walk to her house.
we talked the whole way. we talked about what life is going to be like after i move, how much we are gonna miss the sandlot, all the memories we made, etc. thankfully I wasn't leaving for another week or so.

we finally arrived at her house and could hear how loud the boys were from outside of the house.
we walked in at a bad time cause squints was trying to do an impression of a pig and ham was trying to do an impression of a chicken. all of the boys were practically rolling on the floor from how funny it was.
me and dawn closed the door behind us which caused them to swing there heads over at us.

me and dawn gave them a look then bursted out laughing.
"you guys look like idiots!" dawn laughed. my stomach ached even more from laughing.

"yeah yeah whatever" yeah-yeah said

"oh be quiet dawn" smalls says

"it's getting dark we should probably go now" benny suggested

we all walked out of dawns house. the boys trailing behind me and dawn.
me and dawn were doing silly dances as we walked which caused the boys to make fun of us but we didn't care cause we were having fun.

all of the sudden kenny comes up from behind and says to dawn
"Bertram said he likes you dawn!"

"shut up kenny" dawn says hitting the back of his head

"ouch!"

"man! come on kenny!" bertram said

I looked back
"leave us be we are having fun!" i say putting my arm around dawn and she puts her arm around me.
when i looked back i saw benny staring at me being awfully quiet. blush swept over his face when i looked at him.

we eventually made it to the carnival. the different colored lights from the rides were practically blinding me and the smell of popcorn filled my nose.

"LETS GO ON THE TILT-A-WHIRL!" ham shouted as he ran for the ride and all of the boys followed him besides Bertram and benny.

we walked around for a bit as bertram and dawn followed behind and jabbered to eachother but it was awfully quiet for me and benny.

"wanna go on the ferris wheel?" i say scratching the back of my head awkwardly.

"yeah sure.."

"we are going on the ferris wheel dawn" i say looking back at her as she gave me a wink and i gave her one back.

me and benny sat down on the ferris wheel as it teetered back and forth.
the ride then jolted and started going up slowly. It was quiet for a few moments.

"you know.. i've never been to a carnival before.." I say staring out into the distance

"really? like never? not even once?"

i shake my head "nope"

"the carnival is one of my favorite places in the world other then the sandlot"

"i never thought Benjamin Rodriguez would ever like the carnival so much" i say nudging his shoulder with my elbow as he smiled.

"yeah, especially this ride.. it's more.. quiet then the other rides the rest of them want to go on"

I agreed with him silently as we both stared off into the distance.

"roxanne will you be my girlfriend" he says looking over at me

"what?" I look over

"will you be my girlfriend" he says with a straight face

i lit up with excitement, he finally asked me.. HE FINALLY ASKED ME!?

"yes of course!" i say with a huge smile on my face
I then gave him a sweet kiss which left him very flustered.
