"Nova my office now please." My boss said in his usual harsh tone.
Fuck me. What now?
It really can't be another meeting, I'd just closed my third deal of the year and it's only October. If anything I hope this is about a raise.
I walked behind the tall blonde man and entered his office.
Be motioned for me to take a seat and I did. He walked around his desk and took a seat on his side. He crossed his arms and looked pissed.
I didn't say anything. I kept my face stern and cold as I sat across from him. I didn't know why I was here and he didn't seem interested in talking just yet.
For a while, it was just the two of us looking at each other in silence. I was scared on the inside but on the outside, I had to keep my composure.
"Do you know why you're here?" He asked me coldly.
"No," I said firmly. "If I did know I'm sure we could've cut out the last five minutes of silence."
"Now is not the time to be smart with me." He said angrily. "How much do I pay you a month?" He asked me.
I looked at him blankly for a moment. "$30,500, unless my pay rate has changed," I said in a snarky tone.
"Exactly which means you make $366,000 a year. Why are your bank statements showing you have over $2.5 million in your bank account?"
I froze for a moment. I had no real excuse as to my I had a large amount of money just sitting in my bank account. There was nothing I could say to justify it.
You don't exactly go around telling people you earn an extra large amount of cash on late-night escapades at a street race. An illegal one at that point.
I kept my face stern. "Why do you have my bank statements?" I asked him calmly.
"That doesn't matter," he waved me off. "If I pay you that much a month and after taxes you take home $28,000 you should have well under that amount—assuming you have other expenses."
"And?" I shrugged my shoulders.
"This is serious nova! This is tax fraud! you're earning more than you claim and now the tax collectors are coming here." He said.
For a moment, my stomach dropped. I was stuck. I don't understand how this could've happened, yeah I've been laundering my money but it's never been in large amounts.
