✯ Lola's POV ✯
"No further questions, your honor." my lawyer said to Nova at the stand.
I missed her, more than she knows. But I had to do what I had to do to survive. I just wish she wasn't a part of that, a part of my mistakes because now I miss her more than she'll ever know.
"I'd like to call for a meeting with my client, a councilors meeting," Capsin called.
"Meeting approved," the judge said. "We'll take a ten-minute recess and come back."
I watched as Nova walked off the stand and didn't even bat an eyelash my way. It's been happening a lot lately but I hated it. I can see her still wearing the ring I gave her, emerald suits her, but we haven't had an actual conversation in over three months. All the talking we've done has been through lawyers and over documents.
I can't blame her since this was mainly my fault. Now I just have to live with knowing the only girl I truly wanted to give up my everything for is now gone.
I waited until Capsin had fully returned to our side to walk away with me. I walked behind him into the council meeting room and once I was in, he closed the door behind me.
"She stuck to it," Capsin said.
"I know, I was there listening to it all," I said flatly.
"So now it's your job to fill in the gaps and give them everything she didn't," he said.
"You don't think I know that," I answered harshly. "I know I have to fill in the gaps, I know that," I said angrily. "We've been going over the fucked up version of this for over three months—I know what I have to fucking say Capsin, I don't need you reminding me at every fucking turn."
Capsin just looked at me and took a moment before responding. "Lo, I know seeing Nova up there was hard, you were engaged, I know it's hard. But I need you to focus," he said.
I scoffed at him. "Seeing her up there was nothing, it felt like nothing. I'm focused. Can we just go back out? " I retaliated.
"Lola listen, if this is too much for you, we can take the plea deal and do your five years and get out."
"I can do this," I said. "Just do your damn job Capsin and keep me the hell out of prison—if you can't do this then I'm paying the wrong fucking person a hell of a lot of money." I snapped.
"Ya, yo te entiendo," he spoke. "Let's keep you out of prison," he said.
(Translation: okay, I understand.)Before we go back in, I think you should know, that this has been my life for as long as I can remember. But I went so quickly from having nothing to everything.
When I was fourteen my family and I moved to the United States from Mexico. We came from a small town just outside of Culiacán in the state of Sinaloa.
