The detention room was dimly lit, filled with the musty scent of old paper and polished wood. A few students were scattered around, silently working on their assignments. Zyran and Yuu sat at the back, still feeling the tension from earlier.
“Great way to spend the afternoon, huh?” Zyran said sarcastically, glancing at the clock. “Just what I wanted.”
Yuu sighed, her expression serious. “We need to talk about what happened today. This fighting isn’t going to help us.”
“Tell that to Kai,” Zyran muttered, folding his arms. “He started it.”
Yuu shook her head. “You both need to stop pushing each other’s buttons. You have more in common than you realize.”
“Like what?” Zyran scoffed. “Being rich and miserable?”
“Exactly,” she replied, leaning forward. “You both feel trapped by your parents’ expectations. Maybe if you talked instead of throwing insults, you could actually understand each other.”
Zyran rolled his eyes. “Yeah, right. He thinks he’s better than everyone.”
Just then, Kai walked in, his expression unreadable. He scanned the room, eyes landing on Zyran and Yuu. “Look who it is,” he said, sarcasm lacing his voice. “The art wannabe and his ever-so-supportive sister.”
“Just ignore him, Zyran,” Yuu said quietly.
But Zyran couldn’t help himself. “Maybe if you focused on something other than your own ego, you’d actually learn something in here, Kai.”
“Oh, please. Like I need lessons from you,” Kai shot back, his tone sharp.
“Can you both keep it down?” the detention supervisor barked from the front. “This is not a social hour!”
Zyran leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. “See? Even he knows you’re a distraction.”
Kai clenched his jaw, clearly annoyed. “Whatever. I’ll just work on my part of the project alone. At least I know it’ll get done right.”
Yuu sighed, her patience wearing thin. “Why can’t you just try to work together for once? This constant fighting isn’t doing any of us any favors.”
“Because he’s insufferable!” Kai snapped, gesturing toward Zyran. “He can’t handle the fact that I’m actually good at something.”
Zyran leaned forward, a smirk creeping onto his face. “Good at something? Is that what you call it? Maybe I should draw you a picture of your inflated ego. It might help you see how ridiculous you look.”
Kai’s face turned slightly pink, and he sputtered, caught off guard. “You—”
Yuu stifled a laugh, clearly amused by the unexpected reaction. “See, that wasn’t so hard, was it?”
Zyran seized the moment. “I mean, it’s not my fault you can’t handle a little truth, Kai. Blushing really doesn’t suit you; it’s kind of cute, though.”
Kai’s expression shifted from shock to indignation. “Shut up, Zyran!”
“Aw, come on, I’m just stating facts. I didn’t know you were so sensitive,” Zyran teased, leaning back in his chair with a satisfied grin.
“Can you both just stop?” the detention supervisor snapped, trying to regain control. “If you keep this up, you’ll be here longer than planned!”
Zyran shrugged, still enjoying the moment. “Whatever. Just trying to lighten the mood here.”
As the minutes dragged on, the atmosphere in the room began to shift. The tension was still there, but now there was an underlying current of something else—something almost playful. Zyran glanced at Kai, who was still trying to hide his blush.
“Just remember, Kai, you can’t be perfect all the time. Everyone has their off days,” Zyran said, a smirk still lingering on his lips.
“Fine, just keep your mouth shut,” Kai muttered, trying to sound annoyed but clearly flustered.
“Maybe next time, I’ll just draw you a picture instead,” Zyran shot back, clearly enjoying the banter.
Just then, the door swung open, and Jaden strolled in, followed by Amara, leo, and Riku. “What’s up, losers?” Jaden called out, grinning as he spotted Zyran and Kai.
Perfect timing,” Zyran said, rolling his eyes. “You all can join in on this fun.”
“Detention together? How cozy,” Amara quipped, smirking at the tension in the room.
You guys did this not us l forgot what happened again ?” Riku, taking a seat next to Yuu.
“Just a little friendly debate,” Kai replied, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Leo raised an eyebrow. “Right. And I suppose Zyran’s ‘art’ is a masterpiece, too?”
Touché,” Leo replied, laughing as he took a seat on the opposite side of the room.
Zyran shot him a glare. “Better than whatever it is you’re trying to pass off as talent.”
As soon as Kai was about to retort, the detention supervisor interjected, raising his voice. “Alright, enough! Since you all can’t keep it down, the teacher said, tomorrow after school, you’re all going to clean the classroom for talking during detention.”
“Seriously?” riku groaned, throwing his head back in frustration. “Cleaning? That’s the punishment
