Nicholas' s pov

The ocean was restless, the waves crashing against the shore in rhythmic chaos. Something felt off tonight- an unsettling energy in the air. As I sat on the beach, watching the horizon, I spotted something- no, someone- struggling in the water, barely visible in the fading light.

My breath caught in my throat, without hesitation, I sprinted to my small boat, my heart pounding as adrenaline surged through me. Whoever it was, they didn't have time.

Pushing the boat into the churning water, I paddled furiously my muscle aching with every stroke. The wave fought back, tossing the boat, but I refused to give up. I wasn't sure who this man was, but leaving him to drown wasn't an option.

As I got closer, I could see him- his body limp, barely keep afloat. His skin was pale , and his eyes closed. Fear surged through me. Was I too late?

I leaned over the edge, stretching my arm as far I could, fingers barely grazing his shoulder. With a desperate pull, I hauled him onto  the boat, his cold, drenched body, heavy and lifeless in my arms.

"Stay with me," I whispered, my voice shaky, as I positioned him on his back and started compression on his chest.

"Come on, breathe. Please."

The minutes felt like hours as I continued the rhythm, my own breath catching with every failed attempt. Finally, after what seemed like forever, he coughed- water spluttering from his mouth as his chest heaved.

"That's it," I said, my heart leaping. I leaned closer, wiping the water frim his face as his eyes fluttered open. They were a deep, pained brown, filled with confusion and exhaustion. He tried to speak, but no words came out only a shallow gasp.

"Hey, you're safe now," I murmured softly, pulling him into a sitting position. He was shaking uncontrollably, his soaked clothes clinging to his frame. I wrapped my arms around him, trying to provide whatever warmth I could. "Just breathe, I've got you."

For a moment there was only silence between us, the sound of the waves crashing against the boat the only noise breaking the stillness. His head dropped to my shoulder, and I held him tighter. Whoever this man was, he had been through something horrible, and all I  could think about was getting him back to shore, back to safety.
