Aditya's POV:

After a pretty hard-working week for both of us, I decided to arrange a rooftop date on a Sunday. The whole Sunday afternoon went into decoration. My best friends Arnav, Rishi, and Ritvik helped me decorate the rooftop.  Later, At 7:30 PM, I called Rohini to dress up and come to the rooftop.

I took a deep breath, watching the last of the petals fall into place around the table I'd set up on the rooftop. The setup was simple, just a few strings of fairy lights and a candle flickering in the middle of the table, but I hoped it was enough to make her smile.

I am not sure why am I even doing this. She is just a mere alliance for me. I should not keep any expectations and let her keep any expectations. Did I forget the trauma my mother gave me? But when she cries my heart breaks. When she smiles I feel like 1000s of flowers are blooming around me. It is cheesy but that's how I feel.

Amidst my thoughts, I heard her footsteps behind him and turned just in time to see the surprise in her eyes as she took in the scene. That reaction alone made my efforts worth it. Her expression softened, and my nervousness began to ease.

"You did all this?" she asked, still looking a little stunned.

I chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah...thought I'd try to make things a little less awkward between us. Rooftop dinners are a good start, right? Though my best friends helped me a bit."

Rohini's face lit up with a smile that made something in my chest twist a little. "It's...really beautiful, Aditya. Thank you."

We sat across from each other, the glow of the lights dancing on her face. I started the conversation lightly, asking her about her favorite movies and favorite places she'd visited as a kid. I watched her relax with each story, her eyes lighting up as she told him about her childhood and the funny, random things she used to do but whenever I used to mention her parents I saw longing, sadness, and hatred in her eyes.

As we finished our meal, I felt a gentle warmth settle over the evening, and I couldn't help but feel a tug of something I hadn't expected. Clearing my throat, I looked down for a moment, trying to gather my words.

"Rohini...I just wanted to say, I know this marriage isn't ideal. We were kind of...thrown into this by our families. But I want you to know that I'm willing to be friends and whenever we are ready we will give this relationship a chance." I looked up, meeting her gaze, my voice soft surprising myself.

"We don't have to rush. We can take our time...just get to know each other like friends and then decide." She said and my heart was finally at ease.

Their outfits.

Rohini's POV:

I hesitated at the rooftop entrance, not sure what to expect. The last few days had been a whirlwind of awkward silences and polite small talk, and honestly, I hadn't thought Aditya would put much effort into...whatever this was.

He just called me and told me to dress up and come to the rooftop.  But as I stepped out onto the terrace, I froze, my eyes widening.

String lights were strung up across the space, casting a warm glow over a small, intimate table in the center. There were rose petals scattered around, and a single candle flickered in the middle of the table. The whole thing looked like something out of a movie, simple but beautifully thoughtful.

I glanced at Aditya, who looked as nervous as I felt. "You did all this?" I asked, genuinely surprised. He let out a small laugh, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Yeah...thought I'd try to make things a bit less awkward for us. Rooftop dinners are supposed to be nice, right? Though my best friends helped me a bit."

I smiled, touched more than I'd expected to be. "It's...really beautiful, Aditya. Thank you."

We took our seats, and I felt the initial tension slowly ebb away as we talked. He was trying hard to keep things light, asking me about movies and places I'd visited. As I  shared a few silly childhood stories the only happy memory I had, I found myself genuinely laughing. It was strange to realize I was enjoying myself.

The atmosphere shifted as they finished their meal, settling into a quieter, almost comfortable silence. I took a sip of my drink, surprised by how much I'd relaxed throughout the evening. It didn't feel forced or awkward anymore. It felt...nice.

Aditya cleared his throat, his expression turning more serious.

"Rohini...I just wanted to say, I know this marriage isn't ideal. We were kind of...thrown into this by our families. But I want you to know that I'm willing to be friends and whenever we are ready we will give this relationship a chance."

"We don't have to rush. We can take our time...just get to know each other like friends and then decide." I said accepting that we can't be strangers forever.

I felt a strange mixture of relief and warmth at his words. What is this man doing to me? Why does my heart beat faster when I am close to him or look into his eyes?

Author's POV:

Rohini found herself sharing things she hadn't planned to, and he was opening up, too, in a way that made her see him differently. By the time they finally stood up to leave, a small smile had found its way onto her face. Maybe this marriage didn't have to feel like a burden. Maybe, with time, it could become something real.

~ Rohini's thoughts

By the time they finally stood to head back inside, Aditya realized he felt closer to her than he'd thought possible in just one evening. Maybe this forced marriage didn't have to be just an obligation. Maybe, just maybe, it could turn into something he wanted.
