A Second Medic

Y/n P.O.V

About another week has passed since I went on a ride with Chromia. Elita 1 had finally made a full recovery and she resumed her duty of protecting me. When she wasn't with me, she was helping Optimus with interrogations. Every time she went off to help him, I couldn't help but feel worried about her. Knowing what Shatter did to her, who knew what other tricks those Decepticons could come up with?

Jack: Hey, you okay?

Y/n: Huh? Oh sorry. Just... Stuck thinking.

I was sat down with Jack, Miko and Raf. Miko and Raf were playing a two player racing game and Raf was winning, which upset Miko. She groaned as Raf won the race.

Miko: How am I losing to kid that's two years old?!

Raf: I told you already, I'm 12!

Miko: Same difference!

Y/n: Nobody likes a sore loser Miko.

Miko: The only one who's sore is you!

I roll my eyes and look over at Ratchet, seeing him attend to a dent in Bulkhead's chassis. I hum and stand up, walking over to them.

Y/n: You okay?

Bulkhead: Yeah. Just got a little busted up is all. Nothing too serious.

Ratchet: But if left unattended, this dent could open some higher problems. Disruption in Energon flow, troubles transforming etc.

Bulkhead: Ratchet, it's not that deep.

Ratchet: I would rather not take that chance. And dents are one of the more troubling things for me to heal.

Y/n: How about I try?

Ratchet scoffs.

Ratchet: You know, I am the medic of team Prime. I've been healing Autobot injuries longer than you've been alive.

Y/n: True, but you're looking at Bulkhead as a patient who's bleeding to death. But I've fixed all sorts of dents in cars before. Just humour me.

Reluctantly, Ratchet steps back from Bulkhead, mumbling under his breath. I tell Bulkhead to transform into a truck and examine his truck form. The dent was close to the fuel tank which was worrying. I get my tools and begin to work on the dent. It was an easy fix and within around 5-10 minutes, I had solved it.

Y/n: All done.

Bulkhead reverts back to robot form and checks it out.

Bulkhead: Hey! Good as new! Looks like we've got a second medic in the team now.

Ratchet: Puh-lease. I doubt Y/n could fix more serious injuries.

Bulkhead: Are you already forgetting what Elita 1 said when they arrived?

Y/n: And didn't you inspect my work on her just to be sure?

Ratchet: Well... Yes. I will admit that you were able to stop her leaking Energon. But there are elements that could've been improved such as cleaning the wound up and properly sealing it.

Y/n: I did my best considering we were in a junkyard at the time. Maybe you can teach me? It'd help to have someone a lot smaller for smaller and deeper wounds, right?

The medic rubs his chin, contemplating my words. After a moment, he nods.

Ratchet: Very well. I'll teach you. But before you can start on treating injuries, you must learn of our anatomy. While I am no teacher, I shall do my best to educate you.

I nod and smile.

Y/n: Alright, where do I start?

With that said, Ratchet shows me an image of a Cybertronian body and educates me on all the details. He taught me about the spark, about all the pumps, the T cog, optics and more. An hour passed and Arcee came along, frowning.

Arcee: Uh, what's going on?

Bulkhead: Ratchet's teaching the new kid how Cybertronian anatomy works. The kid wants to be a second medic.

Arcee: Really? How's that working for him?

Bulkhead: It's looking good so far. He's a quick study.

Arcee stands beside Bulkhead and watches with him as Ratchet teaches me more about the Cybertronian body. A little while passed before we decided to stop for the day. There was a lot to learn about the anatomy, even more so considering the size difference between us.

Ratchet: Tomorrow I'll test your knowledge of what we went over today.

Y/n: Sounds good.

Miko: Dude. You're here with a bunch of giant alien robots and the one thing you decide to do is learn and act like this is a school?

Y/n: Hey, with more Autobots here and the inclusion of humans, two medics is better than one.

Arcee: Y/n's got a point. In the war for Cybertron, there were hardly any medics and Ratchet's hands were full with scrap. Having another medic would help out a lot in his case.

Miko rolls her eyes, not thinking much of it. Somehow, she just felt like a brat. Even more than most. I shake my head and turn to Arcee.

Y/n: Is Elita 1 still interrogating Airachnid and Shatter?

Arcee: Along with Optimus, yeah. I just wish I was the one interrogating Airachnid.

Her fist clenches and I frown.

Y/n: I'm assuming you have history with her? Even back when you came to help me from that cave, you seemed pretty angry.

Arcee sighs and crosses her arms.

Arcee: It was back on Cybertron. It was meant to be a simple recon mission and I had a partner called Tailgate. We were... close. But the mission went south and we were captured. Airachnid... Tortured him. Ruined his body and I could do nothing but watch as she murdered my partner. Every time I hear her name or look at her, I'm reminded of what she did to him. I promised myself I'd snuff her spark out one day. To make sure nobody would ever have to die like Tailgate did.

She looks down at the ground, her expression becoming more solemn. Seeing it from her perspective, I understood why she hated the spider bot so much. If I'd lost my mom in a similar fashion, I'd probably do the same.

Y/n: I'm... Sorry to hear that. I heard that you lost a partner, but I didn't think Airachnid was responsible.

Arcee: It's fine. You didn't know all the details.

I nod and sit back down with the other guys. Jack hands me his controller.

Jack: Go ahead. It's your turn anyway.

Y/n: Thanks.

I take the controller and play in a racing game against Raf.

Somehow, I felt this medic business would take a turn...
