Rachel Knight, better known by her stage name Banshee, is a heavy metal artist known for her blend of fairy-like hyperpop, trap metal, black metal, and witchy house music. Her music tackled major societal issues that target women, femme-presenting people, and queer people such as abuse, being the receiver of predatory behavior, and misogyny. Unfortunately, by backing Israel and resorting to the argument that if you're anti-Zionist you're also antisemitic, Banshee has put herself in a position where she is vocally defending an abusive occupying entity.

In December 2023, author Sophia Slade exposed Banshee for being a loud and proud Zionist after she had dropped Sophia as a mutual over her coming out in support of Palestine. Sophia provided various screenshots of Banshee's Zionism, including equating those who side with Palestinians and Hamas as "abusers" without considering the reason why resistance groups like Hamas are created under the thumb of oppressive entities such as Israel. Banshee also compared being against what the Israeli government is doing to hating Jewish people, which is entirely false. Banshee is not only failing to realize that Jewish Palestinians exist and are currently being murdered by the IOF but also that Palestinians and their supporters are not motivated by antisemitism, they are motivated by anti-colonialism. Israel is not defending itself against hate, it was never about hate. Even attacking Lebanon was not about hate. It is about colonialism, racism, and ethnic cleansing.

Previously before being exposed, Banshee had put out a response to October 7th on her Instagram story, expressing how her "heart is with the people of Israel" and including a part about how SA is never justified, especially the SA of Jewish women. While what she said about SA was very valid, she has since been silent on the suffering of Palestinians, making no comments about information that has come out about the Israeli government trying to justify the SA of Palestinian men, women, and children held captive by the IOF.

I used to be a fan of her music and I was devastated when this news came out, as her music had helped me get through struggles with my overall well-being. However, my and her fans' disappointment should not overshadow the needs of Palestinians. Please spread awareness and donate to Palestinian charities.
