chapter three : risa-chan!

"huh?" was probably the thought that went through everyone's mind. they don't have grade secretaries.

"ahahah, funny story!" you said, sliding to the front of the class to explain. "so like, ume-nii is my close friend, and even if i didn't want him to, he went on ahead and made me a class representative along with kaji, kusumi and enomoto in my first year, then i became close friends with them too and now that i'm in second year, i'm still a class representative because a batch's captain, vice captain, and etc are usually also the ones who take on the roles in their next year, so...yeah, i'm the grade secretary." you exhaled deeply after saying all that in one breath.

you sighed in frustration, then tried to explain it in a more simple manner. "grade secretary is a custom job for me made by umemiya because we're close."

after exchanging contact info and some other motivation for sakura, you learned everyone's names and got to know everyone.

"othello-kunnn! why so gloomy?" you said, putting your arm around his shoulders and walking beside him.

"what the—why does everyone call me othello board??" he said, blushing slightly at your eye contact.

"ah well, your hair just reminds me of one, heh!" you giggled.

to train the first year's grade captain and vices, they accompanied you guys on your patrol. most of the time, nothing happens and it's boring, but you were now taking the opportunity to talk to sakura.

"hah? got a problem with my hair?"

"no no, in fact, i absolutely love it!" you replied, smiling brightly. "it"s so cute and really matches you. especially your eyes, they're so pretty!"

"h-huh?!" he jumped backwards away from you from surprise and looked away to try to hide his blush.

"it's cold, are you okay?" his voice seemed emotionless, but his eyes had something complicated in them.

"oh!" you were wearing just your school blouse and skirt that ended a bit above your knees. his concern made you perk right up and walk faster to where he was. "yeah i'm fine, don't worry, kaji!"

the ghost of a smile graced his features when you went closer to him, but quickly disappeared when an old lady appeared in front of him.

"oh, kaji-kun. l/n-chan!" she said, a worried expression on her face.

he took off his headphones to hear her better. "...what's wrong?" he asked.

"my dear risa-chan...she's gone missing again."

you gasped, genuine care in your tone. "oh no! poor risa-chan! where did you last see her?"

behind you, the first years were talking about who risa was, but you didn't give much mind.

"what? again?! i told you to keep an eye on her!" kaji yelled, startling you for the nth time.

"i'm sorry, i was clueless..."

"shit! ugh, whatever."

you narrowed your eyes and flicked your finger to his forehead. "tsk, shut up. i told you not to swear to the townsfolk already!" you scolded.

"ow—yeah, yeah." he seemed to calm down and faced the grandma. "quit crying. we'll handle it."

you smiled in satisfaction at his "nicer" tone. a pink ribbon today? you thought as the granny described risa. aw, that must look so cute on her..!

"wh-who cares about my damn face?!" sakura yelling at his vice captains caught your attention. "let's move—!! bwagh!"

a white flash suddenly hit sakura's face.

"oh—risa-chan!!" you yelled, immediately going after her.

"huh?"

"there she is! sakura?! catch the cat!!" enomoto appeared out of nowhere and screamed his lungs out to sakura to catch risa.

"huh?!"

"that's...risa-chan!!"

the white flash of cat jumped lightning fast up a building, and before you knew it, sakura fucking wall jumped up to follow her.

HUH I THOUGHT YOU CAN ONLY DO THAT IN VIDEO GAMES, you thought.

"he's...like a monkey..." enomoto said out loud. nirei was too stunned to speak, while suo looked as if sakura was like this everyday.

you glanced at kaji, who just stood there and stared owlishly at the running ranboo-haired boy.

you all ran to follow sakura as he jumped effortlessly over carts, dodged past people, and crashed through bushes, always a hair behind him. honestly, his agility impressed you since he was just a first year...we really do have a lot of talented new students.

"stupid cat, not there!!" sakura yelled. the moment seemed to slow down as risa jumped off the bridge lightly like a fairy. a fairy who wanted to kill herself.

"RISA-CHANN!!!" you screamed, worried for the cat. with no other thought in mind, you leapt over the railing and followed risa into the river.

"y/n!!" kaji was immediately there beside sakura and managed to throw his furin jacket off (kusumi caught it) before jumping into the water after you, the large splash hitting the others still on the bridge.

the world fell dark in your vision, the cold, ruthless water freezing up your body. aw, dammit, i didn't bring a change of clothes...

you opened your eyes despite the stinging water clawing at your eyeballs. it was quiet, almost peaceful.

oh, risa-chan! you almost said, but held your breath and swam towards the cat flailing to get to the surface. above the water, you heard faint sounds of the others yelling, but paid no attention.

finally, you caught risa in your hands. "gotcha! oh shi—" you forgot you were underwater and talked, feeling the cool water enter your mouth and some getting in your throat. it was cold.

you suddenly felt hands grab your waist, then wrap around your body, holding you close. they were warm.

the light made its way suddenly into your eyes, the heat of the sun bathing your body despite the water still clinging to your clothes. you took a deep, although somewhat shaky breath of the air, lungs relieved.

"k-kaji?" you said, with risa still in your arms, looking behind you to see the sandy-haired boy holding you like a cat.

"hi."

you smiled. "hi."
