you tapped your foot on the floor to the tune of deja vu, incredibly bored. kaji was talking to the hospital's receptionist, paying for your hospital bills while you sat on a nearby bench with a bandaged and bloody arm.

damn...how did we get here again?

about thirty minutes ago, you were in your kitchen with kaji and was using the knife to try to pry the lollipop part of the lollipop from the stick. unfortunately, it slid off and the knife scraped your left wrist. you both panicked and ran all the way to the emergency room, so here you were now.

you stood up, your arms hanging loosely at your sides as you did so. the cut was large enough that they needed to stitch it close, and the anesthesia was still in effect, numbing your left arm. you felt tired.

you tugged slightly at kaji's hoodie sleeve with your good hand and whispered, "kaji."

"mm?" he hummed, looking at you as the cashier was getting the change.

"i'm sorry." despite all your resistance, he had forcefully paid the bill with his own money, and you felt bad that your dilemma had kept him from going home at the time. you glanced at a nearby clock on the wall. 6:39 pm.

he placed a hand on your head, slightly ruffling your hair. "i don't mind if it's for you. you can pay for food or something next time," he said softly.

you looked at the floor and at your black converse shoes, smiling. "you're too nice."

he took the change and moved his hand to hover closely against your lower back but not fully touching it, keeping it there as you walked side by side to the exit.

it was evening and dark, but the sky was cloudless outside, painting a sunset pink to dark purple gradient.

"i'll walk you home," kaji said, noticing your sigh. "you can't fight with that arm."

he had a point. he offered you a lollipop he stole from the minions ad pack specimen and you took it gratefully and kept it in your mouth as you continued to walk.

kaji stopped suddenly under a lampost. "what's wrong?" you asked, cocking your head slightly to the side.

he took off his hoodie (shush let's say he had a shirt underneath) and turned to you. "put your arms up." you did as he told and closed your eyes as he put the gray hoodie on you and lifted your hair from underneath the collar of it. it was two sizes too big for you, almost going over your shorts. "you must be cold," he said.

"oh—thanks." you smiled a little, startled but thankful. he was always so thoughtful like that, noticing the small things.

"don't feel bad. it's not your fault you were born stupid enough to do that with a knife," kaji said, reading your mind.

you let out an offended scoff, turning your head to look at him. "firstly, fuck you, and secondly, excuse me??"

he laughed softly, something that closely never ever happened. "whatever. let's just do the lollipop thing some other day. make sure they don't expire."

"of course." the walk home was peaceful. it's always like that with kaji. by the time you got to your house, the sky was already a dark blue.

"oh—" you realized something halfway up the doorstep, turning to kaji who stood in front of your doorstep with a neutral expression, hands in his pockets. "have your hoodie back," you said, starting to take it off.

"it's fine, you can keep it for a while. really," he said, interrupting you.

a smile made its way into your face. "you're never getting this back."
