Jeongyeon, pacing back and forth in her room, was having what could only be described as a

“pre-date panic.”

She grabbed her phone, opened up a group chat, and added her closest friends, dubbing the chat,

“Operation: Nayeon’s Heart.”

Her thumbs flew across the screen.

Jeongyeon:
Okay, listen up. I’m gonna take Nayeon on a date tomorrow and make it official. I need the best proposal idea you’ve got.

A flood of replies came in within seconds.

Jisoo:
Just pin her against a wall and kiss her. Boom, done. Romance.

Lisa:
Or do something extra romantic, like whisper something in her ear that’ll make her weak in the knees. 😏

Sana:
LISA, this is not that kind of date!!

Momo:
Is it though?

Jihyo:
GUYS. Can we keep it PG for five seconds?

Chaeyoung:
Wait, what’s wrong with kissing? I think it’s cute.

Mina:
Babe... we’re not talking about kissing anymore.🤦

Tzuyu:
Wait, what? What are we talking about then? 😕

Irene:
Sana your girlfriend wants an answer.

Sana:
Tzuyu baby it's nothing.

Dahyun:
No, there must be something, tell us.

Momo:
I will tell you later, Baby.

Jennie:
Moving on—Jeong, sing to her. Girls love a surprise serenade."

Rosé:
Does Jeongyeon even sing?

Jeongyeon:
WHAT IS WITH YOU ALL?! YES, I CAN SING. 😤

Mina:
"Take her to a club. Sing for her in front of everyone. She’ll never see it coming.

Jeongyeon:
Thanks, Mina love you.

Chaeyoung:
DAD?!?! She is your daughter-in-law!!

Mina:
She didn't mean it like that Chaeng.

The next night, Jeongyeon was a bundle of nerves as she and Nayeon entered the club. Nayeon was oblivious, just having fun dancing, while their friends were whispering among themselves.

Up on stage, Jeongyeon fumbled with the microphone, her hands sweaty. She cleared her throat, catching Nayeon’s attention. Nayeon looked up, utterly confused.

Nayeon asked

"Wait, what is she doing up there?"

The lights dimmed, and Jeongyeon began.

"Uh, Nayeon... I just... well, I wanted to say something. But then I thought... nah, I’m gonna sing it instead."

Nayeon was confused.

"...What?"

Jeongyeon started singing, her voice cracking at first but gaining confidence as she went. Nayeon’s face was a mixture of confusion and surprise, like someone had just told her bunnies could fly.

Sana whispering

"She’s really doing it... wow."

As Jeongyeon hit the final note, Nayeon’s jaw dropped, and tears began welling up in her eyes. Their friends, meanwhile, were practically bursting with excitement.
