Alex pushed open the creaky door of the old library, its hinges groaning in protest. Dusty air filled his lungs as he stepped inside, and the non-existent  light filtering through the cracked windows barely illuminated the rows of bookshelves stretching out before him. The place felt forgotten, abandoned just like the rest of the ruins. Ancient stone walls framed the room, and cobwebs hung in the corners, undisturbed for who knows how long.

As he walked further in, his boots echoed against the stone floor, the sound swallowed by the oppressive silence of the room. The shelves were crammed with old, worn books, some with faded titles barely visible through the layer of dust that coated everything. He pulled his hood tighter around his face, more out of habit than necessity—there wasn't anyone here to notice him anyway.

He began scanning the shelves, fingers tracing along the crumbling spines of books. Some titles were entirely illegible, their covers worn beyond recognition. Others had clear names but seemed far too advanced or irrelevant to his current search. "Ancient Runes of the Underground," "The Prophecy of the Fallen angel," and "Monsters of the Old World." Interesting, but not what he was after.

As Alex wandered through the aisles, his eyes fell on a particularly thick volume: "History of Monsters and the Underground." He stopped for a moment, staring at it. This could provide some context, help him understand more about the world he found himself  in. He carefully pulled it from the shelf, the weight of it surprising him. As he held it in his hands, his eyes caught another book, tucked away behind it. This one had a worn, leather cover, with the faint title "Magic combat for Beginners" barely visible.

"Perfect," Alex muttered under his breath.

He tucked both books under his arm and kept moving. The deeper into the library he went, the darker and dustier it got. Some of the shelves had collapsed in on themselves, spilling their contents onto the floor. Scrolls and papers were scattered everywhere, adding to the sense of abandonment.

Alex knew this place was old, forgotten even, but something about it felt... right. Like the kind of place where he could uncover secrets, maybe even find something that would help him control his powers.

After gathering a few more books, Alex made his way to a small corner of the library where a wooden table sat beneath the faint light of a high window. He placed the books down and sat in the rickety chair, which groaned under his weight.

The silence around him felt heavy, almost as if the library itself was finally waking up. He stared at the books for a moment, then glanced up, seeing the shadows dancing against the walls. Something about the atmosphere felt off, but he brushed the thought away. Right now, all that mattered was learning—learning how to control his magic, learning about the underground, and maybe even finding a way out.

But that would have to come later. For now, he opened the book on soul magic, dust swirling around him as the brittle pages crinkled under his touch.
