The Lab

============

Alphys furrowed her brow, the strange calm allowing her to meet his gaze more steadily. "So... you're able to draw out emotions and use those as the power source I mentioned, aren't you?" She took a slow breath, and despite the lack of fear, she felt the weight of his power pressing down on her, as if she were still restrained. "But why? What do you want with this ability?"

Alex's eyes flickered, and he regarded her with a chill that hinted at an answer he himself didn't fully know. "I'm not interested in your questions," he replied curtly. "Tell me what you know about my soul. You're the scientist here, aren't you?"

Alphys straightened slightly, the lingering calm emboldening her. "Your soul... it's unlike anything I've ever seen. It isn't shaped like a normal monster's soul, and it doesn't resemble a human's either." She paused, considering her words. "It's... irregular, as though it exists on the edge of both but fully belonging to neither."

He narrowed his eyes, silent, his presence still as intense as it had been when he'd first summoned the tendrils. "If I can absorb emotions from others... then negative energy should work even better," he muttered, almost to himself. The thought seemed to unfurl in his mind, growing like the tendrils he controlled.

Alphys watched him with a wary curiosity. "If you're right, then you'd have to be careful," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Drawing too much from others... it could change you, make it harder to stop."

But Alex didn't respond, and instead, he simply turned away, leaving her words hanging heavily in the air, as if already deciding that he'd learn what he needed—on his own terms.

"I cant just let him leave like that he is a danger to himself and those around him."

With that thought in mind. Alphys using the fact that her anxiety and fear were removed(she could feel that the hallow feeling she had was slowly filling up with her fear again.) , watching Alex as he turned away, his presence radiating a dark pressure. She gathered her nerve, trying to form the words carefully.

"Alex," she began softly, her voice shaky despite the fear he'd drawn from her moments ago, "I think you should know... you're dangerous. If you're not careful, you could—"

A heavy knock echoed through the room, cutting her off mid-sentence. Alphys flinched, her eyes darting toward the door as a muffled voice called out, tense and stern. "Dr. Alphys! Are you all right? We received reports of strange sounds from your lab. Open up, please!"

Her gaze flicked to Alex, worry crossing her face. "I... didn't call them, I swear," she whispered quickly, as if fearing he might think she had summoned the guard on him.

Alex's eyes narrowed, and he kept his expression cold and unreadable, only giving her a slight nod. "Answer them. Tell them nothing is wrong."

Alphys looked back at the door, and then at Alex, her face pale. Panic flashed across her eyes as she realized how the guards might react to finding him here, especially with his current reputation and recent encounter in Snowdin. She opened her mouth, half to warn him, half to beg him to hide, but her words were lost between them.

Alex met her gaze, the tendrils retreating slightly as he assessed the situation. For a moment, his cold exterior softened, just a hint of weariness flickering across his face. He didn't seem afraid of the guards, but rather tired of the entire ordeal, as if everything had been one more weight he was forced to bear alone.

Alphys's mouth opened again, trying to speak, but the door knocked once more, louder and more forceful this time. She looked at Alex, silently pleading for cooperation, as the guards continued to wait just outside.

Alex fixed Alphys with a cold, unblinking stare, his voice low but cutting through the air like ice. "Forget any of this happened. Nothing here was real."

Before she could respond, he turned, tendrils retracting as he moved to the shadows in the back of the lab. In a fluid, quiet motion, he slipped through a side door, vanishing into the dimly lit hall just as the guards pushed the main door open.

The guards entered, glancing around suspiciously, their gaze landing on Alphys, who stood frozen in place. One of them tilted his head. "Everything okay, Dr. Alphys? We heard something."

Alphys took a shaky breath, doing her best to regain composure. She forced a weak smile, nodding. "Oh, uh... yes! Just a bit of a... um, equipment malfunction. Nothing to worry about."

The guards exchanged skeptical glances but said nothing further. As they looked around the room, Alphys clutched the side of a table for support.

Hot Lands

===========

The heat of Hotland hit Alex like a wall as he left the lab behind, and he instinctively pulled his hood up further, shading his eyes from the intense glow of molten rivers  through the landscape. The ground was warm beneath his feet, every step sending up little puffs of hot dust that clung to his boots.

Around him, pipes and vents released occasional bursts of steam with sharp hisses, and the air shimmered, blurring the rocky terrain in the distance. He kept his head low, trying to stay out of sight from the few scattered monsters working or traveling in the area. The heat felt oppressive, but he pushed through, beads of sweat already forming under his hoodie.

Every so often, he glanced over his shoulder, making sure no one had followed him from the lab. But all he could see was the seemingly endless expanse of Hotland, stretching out before him. The deeper he ventured, the more he realized he'd need to find a place to rest soon – somewhere cool and quiet, far from curious eyes. But for now, he just kept walking, letting the rhythmic sound of his footsteps drown out the questions stirring in his mind.
