"'Cause all of the small things that you do
Are what remind me why I fell for you"
Those Eyes - New West
Amara sat in her room, the weight of everything pressing down on her. Her powers had grown beyond anything she had imagined, and while she had some control, the intensity made her realise how little she truly understood. She needed to know more—not just about her abilities, but about where they came from.
She stood, her determination building, and went to find Castiel. He was always the most honest with her, even when it was hard to hear. She found him in the war room, quietly reading through ancient texts. He looked up as she entered, his piercing blue eyes immediately noticing her tension.
"Amara," he greeted, setting the book down. "Is everything alright?"
She didn't waste any time. "I need to know more about my lineage, Castiel. You've hinted at it before—about my family being blessed, my powers coming from something divine. But I feel like I only know half the story. I need to understand why I have these abilities and what my family's connection to all of this is."
Castiel studied her for a long moment before speaking, his voice calm but filled with the weight of knowledge. "Your lineage is... unique, Amara. You were born into a bloodline that was touched by Heaven, blessed many generations ago. It's why your powers are so closely tied to empathy and emotions. The divine connection in your blood has given you abilities far beyond what most mortals possess."
Amara frowned slightly, her brow furrowing. "But why? Why was my family blessed? What did we do to deserve this?"
Castiel hesitated, his gaze softening. "There was a time when your ancestors did something extraordinary. They were protectors—guardians, if you will—tasked with maintaining balance between humanity and the divine. The blessing was Heaven's way of ensuring that your family would always carry that responsibility."
Amara absorbed his words, but something didn't sit right. If this was such a pure blessing, why did it feel so heavy, so complicated? "So, this was a gift," she said slowly, "but it feels like there's more to it."
Castiel's expression remained gentle but firm. "It is a gift, but gifts from Heaven often come with responsibility. Your powers were meant to ensure that the balance remains intact."
Amara nodded, though a part of her still felt unsettled. "Is that all? Is there nothing more to it?"
Before Castiel could respond, a familiar voice echoed from the shadows.
Crowley appeared in the doorway, his signature smirk in place. "Oh, I wouldn't say that's the whole story, now would you?" He drawled, striding into the room with his usual confidence.
Amara turned to him, her curiosity piqued. "Crowley," she said, her tone demanding answers, "what do you know?"
Crowley raised an eyebrow, his gaze flicking between her and Castiel. "Oh, I know a lot, darling. And while your feathered friend here likes to see things through rose-tinted glasses, the truth is far more... complex."
Castiel stiffened slightly but didn't interrupt. Amara, sensing the tension, crossed her arms and waited for Crowley to continue.
"You see," Crowley began, circling the room slowly, "your ancestors didn't just receive some divine blessing out of the goodness of Heaven's heart. No, no, there was a deal involved. One your family struck generations ago."
Amara's eyes widened. "A deal?"
Crowley nodded, his smirk growing. "That's right. Your ancestors were facing certain destruction—something big, nasty, and very, very dangerous. Heaven was willing to intervene, but it came at a price. Your family made a deal to protect themselves, and in exchange, they were given certain... abilities." He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial tone. "But the thing about deals, darling, is that they're never as simple as they seem. There was always an expectation that your family would be used when needed. That's why your powers have been growing. Heaven—or maybe something else—has a plan for you."
