Pov: Lucy

"Lucy!" Tamara shouted as she ran up to me, flinging her arms around me. I hugged her back until she let go, sitting back onto the uncomfortable seats in the waiting area of the hospital. "Any news?" she asked carefully.

"He's still in surgery, they said the bullet skimmed the top of his right lung so they have to repair it." I replied, shuffling around in my seat.

"This feels like deja vu." she laughed nervously. "Not long ago I was here with Tim while you were in the hospital. It's funny, kind of. In a kind of morbid way. Sorry.. I can't stop talking when I'm nervous." she rambled, pacing slightly.

"Do you think he's going to be okay?" I asked, my voice raw with emotion.

"Hey, Lucy, it's going to be okay." she replied, playing with her fingers nervously. "Do you want me to tell you something to take your mind away from it?" she added softly.

"Yeah, okay."

"So I was at home, at the apartment and someone knocked on the door. I was confused, like, who could that be, yanno. So I answer it and an important looking woman is there. She's asks for you and then gives me her card." Tamara paused for a second and reached into her pocket, retrieving a small cardboard card, handing it to me. "She was from the Undercover Academy or something." she continued, looking at me expectantly.

I studied the card, recognising the name. It was the official Police Undercover Academy.

"She wanted you to give me this? To call her?" I asked, confused.

"Uhh, yeah, she said your name had been popping up a lot, I think they want you to do it, right?"

"It would seem so..." I replied, my voice trailing off. I paused for a moment, staring at the number on the card and then folded it up and put it away. "I can't do it, I can't leave him, not now."

"He'd want you to do it though." Tamara interjected.

As much as I wanted this, to become a UC, Tim needed me. As much as going to UC School would kickstart my career, I couldn't do it. Tim was lying in a hospital bed because of me. I did it to him, he was trying to save me. I couldn't help but think that if I was anyone else, he wouldn't have stormed in so full of force, he might have waited for backup. He might have not been shot.

The guilt was scratching at my insides, causing me to feel nauseous. I was bouncing my leg nervously, fidgeting my fingers. My mind was racing, I couldn't stop thinking about Tim, and somewhere deep in my mind I couldn't stop thinking about UC School. It was my dream, ever since deciding on doing UC work.

My eyes darted around the waiting room. It was a sea of white and sterile furniture. The sounds of the machines kept my mind from wondering too far into despair, although it was difficult not to think about the worse case scenario.

"At least think about it, won't you?" Tamara said suddenly, pulling me from my thoughts.

"Yeah of course." I replied, giving her a soft smile.

There were plenty of police officers and detectives waiting around for news, some of them glancing at me every so often with weary looks. I locked eyes with Angela who, the moment she saw me, walked over to me and pulled me into a hug.

"You okay? Have you been checked out by a doctor?" Angela asked after releasing me.

"What? No, I'm fine." I replied, sitting back down in my seat. Angela sat in the seat beside me, looking at me worriedly.

"As soon as we find out Tim is alright, please go get checked out. I don't want him waking up to find you dead because you didn't get yourself checked, he'd kill me for not making sure you were okay."
