Chapter 8: Going Home

Veronica

It was monday, and I still hadn't heard from Betty. She was supposed to be home by now. I didn't want to be a clingy girlfriend but I was so worried about her

(Voicemail)

Veronica- "Betty, it's me again. Please please call me back or text me. I really care about you and If I did something wrong I'm sorry"

I hung up the call and threw my phone onto my bed, our bed. I didn't know where she was or if she was coming back

Betty

I couldn't look at Veronica after what I did. I betrayed her. I called my dads number to ask for advice but there was no answer. I just rented a motel for a couple nights and stayed there. I listened to Ve's voicemails. There were at least ten different ones and every time she left me another one, her voice got sadder and sadder"

It hurt my heart, but I hurt her. My mind was racing as I was trying to figure out where to do, then my phone rang. I was expecting it to be Veronica but it wasn't. It was my sister

(On the phone)

Betty- "P-Pol? Is everything okay?" Polly- (sniffles) "you need to come home Betty, dad's condition worsened over night. You need to come say goodbye"

(Off the phone)

My heart sank into my stomach as I looked around in the room I was in. I had nothing with me but I had to go home. I booked a ticket for the next train home. I kept texting my sister for updates and finally made it home

Veronica

I was so worried about Betty at this point. I was trying to give her privacy but I needed to know where she was. It wasn't my proudest moment but I tracked her phone

Betty

Betty- "Polly?" I ran into the hospital and saw my sister sitting with Ruby and Elliot in the waiting room. Ruby- "aunt Be!" She got up and ran over to me as I picked her up and kissed her cheek Polly- "Welcome home" Betty- "is mom with him?" Polly- "yeah, but he really wants to see you" I nodded before putting Ruby on the ground. Betty- "what room?" Polly- "412, and Mom and I will be here" I nodded before taking a deep breath and walking down the hall

I waited outside for a couple minutes before my mom came out. Alice- "oh Betty" she hugged me tightly as I cried into her shoulder. I had so many emotions running through my body and all I could do in that moment was cry.

Alice- (sniffles) "I missed you so much, Elizabeth" Betty- (cries) "I missed you too" we held each other for about a minute before she let me go. Alice- (sniffles) "he's been asking for you" I nodded again before stepping inside the hospital room.

Betty- (softly) "dad?" Hal- (smiles) "Betty!" I ran over and hugged him carefully. Betty- (sniffles) "I have so much to tell you" Hal- "can't wait to hear it all" Betty- "well, I have a girlfriend" I bit my lip and looked at before he smiled and grabbed my hand. Hal- "is she here? Can I meet her?" My eyes saddened as I sniffled again. Betty- "no, actually. I did something and I-I can't face her right now" Hal- "what happened?" Betty- (cries) "I cheated on her"

He pulled me into a hug before I calmed down. Hal- "were you drunk?" Betty- "n-no. Archie.. Archie made me" Hal- "he what?" Betty- (cries) "I begged him to stop, but he didn't. I can't face Veronica after what happened. I should've tried harder to push him off" Hal- "Betty, you're smarter than that to know that you didn't cheat on her. That wasn't at all your fault" Betty- "it wasn't?" Hal- "no, it's Archie's fault. If wasn't stuck in this bed I'd go to New York myself and beat the crap outta him" I smiled slightly before he held my hand again.

Hal- "you should press charges Betty, but right now I wanna see a picture of your amazing girlfriend" I laughed a little before I pulled out my phone and showed him a picture of Veronica that I took. Hal- "is she nice" Betty- "the nicest, and she really care about me. Unlike some people" Hal- "I love you Betty, so much" Betty- "I love you too dad"

I hugged him again before I got up and left the room. I went back out to see mom, Polly and the kids before mom went back into dad's room. Polly- "they say he won't make it through the night" she said while making sure the twins were occupied and distracted with her phone. Betty- "thank you for calling me Pol, I needed to see him" Polly- "I may have overheard a little, who's your girlfriend?" Betty- (smiles) "her name's Veronica, and she's amazing. Actually I should call her. I kinda just left. And I feel bad" Polly- "of course, I wish you all the best"

I got up from the chair and walked outside the hospital. I prayed that my dad would be okay for at least a few more hours but the inevitable was coming. I looked at the picture of Veronica that I had set on my phone after leaving Archie's and It made me smiled before I called her

(On the phone)

Veronica- "Betty? Oh my gosh thank god, I was so worried about you. are you okay? Did something happen" Betty- "I-I'm so sorry Ve, M-My dad's in the hospital a-and I had to go home for a couple of days" Veronica- "oh god, I'm so sorry Betty" Betty- "b-but also. Something happened with Archie.. something bad" Veronica- "you're scaring me Betty, what happened?" Betty- (in tears) "h-he forced me, I'm so sorry" Veronica- "okay that's it, we're calling this off when we get back to New York" Betty- (sniffles) "w-We?"

I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see Veronica standing there still with her phone held up to her cheek.
