"What happened?"
Franco's grin is wider than ever, and Adela knows that she'll be celebrating something with him in a few seconds time. "I'm doing FP1 in Silverstone!"
Adela's eyes widen, and she hops off the hotel room bed, basically tackling him into a hug out of pure excitement. "Oh my god, that's amazing, Fran!"
He pulls he closer as the two jump up and down in excitement. "I'm so proud of you," she says. Her eyes are nearly welling up in tears — she's seen how hard he's worked over the years. He truly deserves this.
"Thank you, Dela. You've been my number one supporter ever since I started karting." he says, and he hugs her a little tighter.
Adela's heart skips another beat. Fuck, she thinks. What's going on with her?
"Have you told your parents yet?" she asks him, and he nods. "I did, over the phone — they're so excited too." Franco's excitement is contagious, and Adela finds herself more excited for the Silverstone weekend than ever now.
"I wanted you to be the first person I told face to face," he says, beaming. "God, wait — I still can't believe it. Am I dreaming? You might need to pinch me."
"You're too sweet," Adela says. "And I'm not going to pinch you! You deserve all of this — you've worked so hard, and it's paying off."
"I know," Franco grins. "It's going to be so fun. And it's going to be even more fun because you get to be there as well!"
Being able to see Franco achieve one of his dreams in person made Adela's heart full. It's been a long time coming - she knows about all the time spent in the sim, all the hard work he's put in and all the sacrifices - and it is all worth it for moments like these.
"F1 driver Franco Colapinto has a nice ring to it, don't you think?" she quips.
"You'll be there for my first F1 race, won't you?" he says - and Adela can hear it in his voice, how overwhelmingly excited he is to share these moments with her.
