Juliet's POV

After a particularly stressful day at school, I came back to my dorm and flopped into bed, groaning.

"I'm so over it!" I whined to Anne. "Why is school so hard? Ugh! AND I'm on my period. And I have cramps. I hate this!"

Anne gave me a sympathetic look and got up from her desk, bringing over a wooden box she'd been sifting through. She perched on the side of my bed.

"Need a distraction?"

I nodded sadly, feeling sorry for myself.

She opened up the box and began to pull out pieces of jewellery, one-by-one. The contents of the jewellery box were her mother's. Anne explained that she looked through them from time to time. She handed me each piece to admire.

"This one was her favourite!" she smiled, holding up a beautiful moss agate ring. "Father used to say she loved it more than her wedding ring. It was the first ring he ever gave her, so it was very sentimental to my mum."

As soon as she said that, the ring began to hum. The sound was subtle, almost just a vibration.

"Do you hear that?" I asked Anne.

She looked at me confused. "Hear what?"

"Uh... never mind," I hugged my pillow close. I was used to hearing weird noises and seeing things that no-one else could, because of my ancient magic.

Anne packed everything back up and popped the box on her desk.

"Anyway, I best be going. I have a hot date with some library books," she chuckled. "Drink some tea, it will help your cramps!" she said as she packed up her satchel and headed out the door.

After groaning in pain for a bit after she left, I finally sat up. I looked over at Anne's desk... at the box. Curiosity got the better of me. I walked over and opened it up again, and dug around until I found the moss agate ring. It was still making a humming sound. I picked it up and turned it over in my fingers, admiring the glistening stone.

Anne liked to study late, so she'd be gone for a while.

She'd never know.

I slid the ring onto my ring finger.

Visuals of Sebastian flooded my mind. Him and I laughing, hugging, kissing... my heart swelled watching this replay of our time together.

What the hell was that?

A knock at the door pulled me back to reality. I made my way over to the door, trying to remove the ring first, but it was stuck.

It was stuck!!

Fuck fuck fuck!

I pulled and tugged at my finger, flicked my hand around, but the ring would not budge. My finger began to turn red and swell.

A louder, more persistent knocking at the door began to make me sweat.

I panicked. "Uhh... I'm busy. Studying. Naked."

"And that's supposed to keep me away?"

"Sebastian?!" I squeaked, alarmed.

Of all people to visit me right now!

I tucked my hand with the ring into my pocket and whipped the door open. "You're... at my door!?"

"And you are dressed. I wonder who's more disappointed."

I laughed nervously, trying to compose myself while discreetly keeping my hand tucked away.

"Well... may I come in?" he raised an eyebrow at me, looking around the room.
