" - It's so. Hot. Killua said, dramatically rolling to his side."
The young boy was laying on his and Gon's shared bed of the night, in a motel of a small city near York New. The temperatures were steaming, and Killua was frying, despite his amazing tolerance to extreme climates. They had been stuck in there for a few days now, going from hotel to motel, as the planes were being cancelled due to weather conditions: and there was no way to train in those. The small room they were occupying at the moment had no air conditioner and the sun hit right through the curtain-less dirt strained windows, even in the evening like right now, turning the ugly flower themed wallpaper into a horrific sight, similar to one of a boiling desert where water is nothing more than a myth. Also, Killua liked to be overdramatic, and he loved to complain.
" - It's uncomfortable, yeah. Responded his friend. "
Gon was sat on a chair by the door, he had just taken a shower. The older boy was himself very tolerant to hot weathers. He came from Whale island, where these temperatures were nothing more than normal in the summer. However, he couldn't stand the thick, dry atmosphere. Whale island was a tropical island, a place where the air was never less than humid. The parched air he now had to breathe made it a hard task for him, and he hated it.
" - Well, it is what it is. Gon said, getting up at a speed that would've given a strong headache to anybody else.
- Oh? Killua smiled, amused. So, you're done complaining?
- You're the one who's always complaining . His best friend (boyfriend) said, crossing his arms. I'm so bored. Let's do something!
- What are we supposed to do with these temperatures, other than melt?
- I don't know, you tell me. Gon sneered. Perhaps, find a way to counter the heat? He giggled at the face Killua made.
- Last time I tried taking you to a pool you ignored me for a whole day. He said, rolling his eyes.
- I told you, chlorine makes my skin itchy!
- Okay, okay, I get it. Killua said, grinning at the other preteen. What shall we do then? "
Gon took a second to put in order every of the very few options that were given to him while Killua readjusted his position on the bed to one where he sat, facing his friend. Gon gasped.
" - We could go to the beach! We've never been to the beach together. "
In all honesty, Killua was no big fan of the beach. He had never had the occasion to go there for reasons other than his assassin missions, but the throng of hot, sweaty people, the burning, sticky sand, the salty water and the blinding sun hurting his cold eyes was the uncomfortable impression that was left of the short visit. Needless to state that his eagerness about yet another trip to that place was close to inexistant.
However, Killua never had and never will have the heart to refuse anything to Gon. So, even if skeptical at first, he easily gave in to his will. After helping the older boy find and pack up everything they would need, they took off to the nearest pharmacy and bought the sunscreen with the highest level of protection they could find, then making their way to the closest beach.
---------------------------------------------------------
The place was (unsurprisingly) busy and the sand was dry. Killua was annoyed, navigating through it all while also carrying their stuff on his back, trying to find the perfect spot. Taking a glance at Gon, who stood by his side, Killua realized that the beaming smile on his face made it all more than worth it. The shorter boy seemed to be holding up much better than previously. Indeed, even if the weather felt quite hotter, the air was also much more humid by the sea, and Gon could finally breathe again. Killua, on the other hand, couldn't wait to be in the water. The filthy, salty water, he corrected his own thought.
" - There! Gon said, pointing to a spot beneath some tree branches, which was shockingly unoccupied.
- Perfect! Killua responded, clapping his hands together. "
The spot was far from the water and far from the entry of the beach they had used, it was tiny and not all of their things would fit under the small tree's silhouette, but it would be enough space to fit a towel so they could sit and eat something after coming back from the water. It was also pretty far away from the other people, so the risk of kids getting sand on their things while they were gone was low.
In only a minute, both Gon and Killua had lost sight of their spot and their stuff, making their way through the uncomfortably hot sand, the playing children and the sleeping people, to the water. There were not much waves that day, which Gon was glad for because last time he'd gone to the beach, some surfer fell from and lost their board which, carried by a huge wave, ended up hitting the back of his head hard enough for him to bleed and have to go back home... Not such a great memory, if you ask.
The sea was cold and it took Gon some time and courage to get the water level past his stomach. Killua, whose body temperature adapted to the cold, was waiting for him a bit farther. The water went up to near his shoulders, which he assumed would be about Gon's chin. He felt free to finally be in a cooler environment, and was glad he hadn't turned down Gon's idea.
" - Come here! Killua shouted playfully at Gon, who was still on his way.
- I'm coming! Came a quick response from Gon as he prepared himself to wet his shoulders and neck.
- What's taking you so long? His boyfriend asked with a grin.
- It's not so easy for everyone, you know. Gon retorted, obviously frustrated. "
Before long, Gon was playing in the water by Killua's side, fighting childishly and splashing each other with water, not bothering to look back at those who walked by. After a while, Gon, whose body was starting to tremble from the cold bite of salty sea water, dragged Killua out of it and to their towel, where they had some watermelon and strawberries.
" - See? Gon started, finishing his watermelon slice. I was right, the beach was the best option.
- It's not like we had many more options or anything. Killua responded. "
He smiled at his pouting friend, putting their, now dried up, towels in his backpack while staring at the sky. He threw an oversized shirt at Gon's face for him to wear. Now that the sun was setting, it was getting cold, and the shorter boy still wasn't wearing anything other than his swim trunks. Killua had gotten dressed by then.
" - Let's go back to the motel. He said, picking up his backpack. It's going to get dark.
- Sure. Gon smiled, grabbing Killua's hand and pulling himself up on his feet. "
The two boys then headed back to their provisory bedroom. Now that the temperature was getting cooler, the walk was considerably more enjoyable for the both of them. The rest of the night was peaceful and sweet as they usually were. Together, the two boys had just lived a new experience as they often did, and they would gladly do so again.
