" - Hey Gon? "

Gon hummed in response to his boyfriend's call. They were sitting in a plane, direction their next stop on their way to find Ging. This time it was Killua's turn to sit next to the window: Gon had last time they took the plane. The middle row was always the most annoying, so Gon tried to sleep, but his eyes didn't seem to agree, not just yet.

" - When's your birthday? Killua asked, turning his head to Gon for the first time in the last twenty minutes. He had been lost in thoughts.

- What? Gon repeated, confused.

- Your birthday. Killua said. The day you were born.

- Well, it was in 1987... But I don't know the exact day. Why? "

Killua blinked twice, looking at his lover. After a second of silence he turned his entire body to face him.

" - So, you've never celebrated your birthday? He asked.

- No. Is that a thing people do?

- It is. I thought your aunt would be the kind to celebrate every time she could. He stated.

- She is. The other giggled at the memories of Mito's excitement before celebrations. You can't imagine how long she spends preparing food for Christmas. Killua smiled.

- See, that's how I imagine your aunt. That's why I find it surprising she doesn't celebrate birthdays. Gon thought for a second. "

He tried to remember if ever his aunt had mentioned his said birthday, but he doesn't. He started the conversation again.

" - My aunt told me that when Ging dropped me by, he left quickly with no explanation. He said. Maybe he didn't tell her my birthday, and she decided not to lie about it. "

Killua stayed silent, suddenly remembering how Gon's birth was a slightly sensible subject due to his abandonment.

Gon himself stayed quiet. He was glad his aunt didn't lie to him, but he felt guilty. If he was right, it meant his aunt probably stopped celebrating her own birthday for him to feel integrated. If she did stop with that purpose, she was right: he would've felt horribly left out knowing he'd probably never celebrate his birthday, because his father most likely doesn't remember when it is himself. But it was also quite sad that she had to give up on such a costume for a child that wasn't even hers. It made him feel bad, kind of like a burden. It wasn't the first time it happened.

Noticing Gon's behavior, Killua decided to react. Resting a hand over the boy's shoulder, he smiled.

" - Are you okay? He asked, even if for him, the answer was obvious. Gon smiled.

- Yes. He nodded, wrapping his arms around Killua in a light hug. "

Killua hugged back, unconsciously making sure no one was watching them. They stayed still for a few minutes, eyes closed, resting peacefully and rubbing each other's back in a comforting manner, even if there was nothing to comfort at that moment. Killua looked out the window, Gon's light breathing tickling him.
