Yoongi sat in his mother's cozy living room, sipping a cup of hot tea and staring out the window at the bustling streets of Seoul. His mother, Mrs. Min, bustled around the kitchen, preparing a snack for her son.
"Ma, I need to talk to you about something," Yoongi said, his voice hesitant.
Mrs. Min wiped her hands on a towel and sat down beside him, a look of concern etched on her face. "What is it, dear? You know you can tell me anything."
Yoongi took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "I got a job offer in New York. I've decided to take it."
Mrs. Min's eyes widened in surprise, and she set her tea down. "New York? But that's so far away! What about your marriage? Are you leaving Jeongkuk? "
Yoongi's expression turned solemn, and he looked down at his hands. "Ma, Jeongkuk and I...we divorced."
The room fell silent, except for the sound of the tea kettle whistling in the kitchen. Mrs. Min's eyes widened in shock, and she reached out to touch Yoongi's arm. "Divorced? Oh, Yoongi, I'm so sorry. What happened?"
Yoongi's eyes dropped, and he shook his head. "It's complicated, Ma. Let's just say we grew apart."
Mrs. Min nodded, her expression softening. "I see. Well, I'm sure it's for the best. But are you sure you're ready to move so far away? You've been through a lot lately."
Yoongi nodded firmly, his jaw set. "I have to do this, Ma. I need a fresh start."
Mrs. Min placed a gentle hand on his arm. "Okay, dear. I'll support you no matter what. But promise me you'll stay in touch and take care of yourself."
Yoongi nodded, his eyes welling up with tears. "I promise, Ma. I'll make you proud."
2 months later.
Jeongkuk stood at the doorstep of his childhood home, bags in hand and a heavy heart. He took a deep breath and entered, calling out his mom.
"Ma, I'm home!"
His mom's eyes went to jeongkuk's bags in his hands, "Are you visiting me, son? Where's your husband, he didn't come with you this time?"
Jeongkuk avoided making eye contact with his mom.
"Jeongkuk, what's going on? Why are you back?" she asked, her voice firm.
Jeongkuk hesitated before speaking, his voice barely above a whisper. "The truth is... Yoongi and I...we got divorced, Ma. It's been almost 3 months now."
His mom's expression turned from surprise to shock. "Divorced?! What happened?!"
Jeongkuk took a deep breath before continuing. "Yoongi moved to... I don't know where . He said he needed a fresh start."
His mom's face darkened. "And you're just telling me this now?! Why did you stay away for so long?"
Jeongkuk's eyes welled up with tears. "I was scared, Ma. I didn't know what to do. And...and it's my fault we got divorced."
His mom's anger boiled over. "What do you mean it's your fault?! Did you cheat on him?! Did you drive him away?!"
Jeongkuk nodded, his tears spilling over. "I'm so sorry, Ma. I was so stupid and selfish..."
His mom's face turned red with rage. "You're the reason he left?! You're the reason my son is divorced?! How could you be so reckless and irresponsible?!"
Jeongkuk cowered under his mom's wrath, knowing he deserved it. He had hurt Yoongi, and now he was facing the consequences.
His mom's anger seemed to escalate with each passing moment, her words cutting deeper and deeper. "You threw away a good marriage, a good man, because of your own selfish desires! How could you be so blind, Jeongkuk? How could you betray Yoongi's trust like that?"
