He looks at me.
"Careful you don't end up swallowing anything else," he says smugly, boasting.
He said it on purpose because things are complicated between us? Maybe because I haven't moved forward?
I glare at him, my anger rising. I grab my water bottle and splash it over him with a smile.
I wink at him as I walk away, and he stares after me, fuming. Everyone is shocked that I did that to Lucas.
Lucas storms after me, grabbing my arm and turning me around forcefully.
"I'll—"
"What? Hit me? Or maybe embarrass me?" I interrupt, staring back at him as I yank my arm out of his grip.
Our friends rush over to us, watching the scene unfold.
"Stop it already!" Peter says as he pulls Lucas away from me.
"We can't leave you two alone for a second without you finding a reason to fight!" Mia says, and I glance at her.
I glare at Lucas again, and he glares back at me.
"What are you all staring at? Got nothing better to do?" he shouts at the kids around us who had stopped to watch.
We were worse than a soap opera at this point...
Eventually, our friends pull us apart, and we each go back to our own groups.
The rest of the school day dragged on, and Lucas and I didn't argue again because they kept us apart.
Later, the group planned to go to a café together. I couldn't care less...
It was Mia who set it up with Peter.
"I already told you, I'm not coming," I say to Mia, who keeps insisting I join.
"He'll be there, and whenever he's around, I get mad," I explain.
"Get over it already!"
"I said no! If I go, we're going to end up fighting."
"You'll keep your cool, no matter what he says."
"Yeah, sure," I laugh sarcastically. "What's next? You want me to agree with everything he says?"
"Can't either of you just put your pride aside?"
"Me or him?" I say, raising an eyebrow.
"Both of you!" she snaps.
"Then don't just lecture me!" I snap back.
"Don't worry, we're working on him too!"
"I'm telling you, if he says anything to me, if he keeps pushing, I'm going to snap. Just warning you!" I say, looking at her seriously.
"You'll hold back!" Mia insists.
"No promises!"
They probably put Peter up to telling Lucas the same thing... If he doesn't provoke me, I won't provoke him.
Even though I could have done so much to get back at him, I haven't. I don't want revenge. I want him to understand what it's like to have someone yell at you, to push you past your limits, to hurt and insult you. I want him to feel what others feel. But the longer he doesn't get it, the more I'll make sure he does!
"Come on, get dressed," Mia tells me. I sigh and head to my closet.
I put on some clothes and grab my wallet before we head out to the café.
The others are already there... including him.
He looks at me, locking his eyes on mine.
I glance back, then shift my gaze toward the group, smiling as I walk over. They signal me to sit down.
They make me sit right next to Lucas.
He looks at me, then pulls out his phone.
I do the same, scrolling through my own phone. I decide to post a picture, something I haven't done in a while
