┃CHAPTER 38┃

The next day arrived too soon, and the sun barely crept over the horizon when the maknaes were the first to stir. Taehyung, Jimin, and Jungkook quietly moved around their shared space, careful not to wake the older members, who had stayed up late the night before.

Namjoon, however, had woken up, and as he stepped into the room, the younger ones turned to face him, a serious expression shadowing his face. He glanced at the three of them, then at the others still sleeping soundly, before speaking.

"We need to split, guys," Namjoon said, his tone grave.

Taehyung furrowed his brows. "Hyung, what do you mean? Why would we split up now?"

Jungkook and Jimin exchanged confused glances, their expressions mirroring the same question. Namjoon sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair as he prepared to explain the difficult decision.

"It's the only way to lure Chris out. He's been tracking us for a while now, but he's cautious. He won't make a move as long as we're all together. If we split up, it'll force him to come out of hiding and meet us. And when he does, we'll finally settle this, once and for all."

Jimin crossed his arms, clearly uneasy. "Hyung, I don't know... That sounds dangerous. What if something happens to one of us? We're stronger together."

"I know," Namjoon replied, his gaze softening as he looked at Jimin. "But we can't keep running or hiding. Chris is dangerous, and if we don't stop him now, things will only get worse. We need to outsmart him, and this is the only way."

Jungkook spoke up, his voice uncertain but filled with determination. "How are we supposed to split? Who goes where?"

Namjoon glanced at the sleeping forms of Jin, Yoongi, and Hoseok, thinking carefully. "We'll need to be strategic about this. Hoseok and Yoongi are skilled enough to handle themselves, but I want Jin with me."

At the mention of Jin, Namjoon's gaze flickered momentarily with an emotion only the night before could explain. He quickly composed himself and continued.

"I'll go with Jin. Jimin you and Jungkook will stay together.Yoongi and Hoseok will stay together. We'll keep our phones on and check in regularly, but the goal is to lure Chris out. Once he's out in the open, we'll regroup and finish this."

Taehyung shifted uncomfortably, his usual playful demeanor replaced by a rare seriousness. "And what if Chris catches on? What if he knows it's a trap?"

"That's a risk we have to take," Namjoon admitted. "But we're running out of options. We either take the risk now, or we let him keep controlling us, keeping us on edge."

Jungkook swallowed hard but nodded. "Alright. I'm in. We need to end this."

Jimin, though still visibly worried, finally sighed in resignation. "If this is what we have to do, I trust you, hyung."

Taehyung didn't say anything for a moment, but his eyes showed the same resolve. He stepped closer, placing a hand on Namjoon's shoulder. "Let's just make sure we all come back, okay?"

Namjoon smiled softly at that. "We will. I promise."

It was bittersweet to be splitting up again, especially after finally reuniting after so long. The air was heavy with the weight of their decisions, but they all knew it was necessary. Even so, the idea of leaving each other's side now tugged at their hearts. They exchanged hugs, whispered encouragements, and offered good luck wishes, trying to lighten the mood with their not-so-final goodbyes.

Hoseok, ever the mood-maker, pulled the maknaes into a huddle. His usual bright smile had a tinge of sadness, but he masked it with his signature energy.

"Jimin, Tae, Kook, I promise," Hoseok started, holding them tight, "when this whole thing is over, I'll record you guys doing the Chicken Noodle Soup dance challenge."

Jimin's eyes brightened for the first time since the plan was mentioned. "It's a promise, right?" he asked, holding up his pinky, his voice a mix of hope and uncertainty.

Hoseok grinned, extending his own pinky to meet Jimin's. "It's a promise, Jimin." They locked pinkies, sealing it.

Taehyung and Jungkook quickly joined in, wrapping their arms around Hoseok and Jimin. For a moment, they forgot about the danger that lay ahead and focused on the bond they shared—the bond that had kept them together through thick and thin.

"We'll all come back," Jungkook said softly, his voice determined. "No matter what happens, we'll finish this and come back. Together."

Taehyung, usually the one to crack a joke, simply nodded this time, his eyes brimming with unspoken emotions. "And when we do, we'll dance like we've never danced before."

Namjoon watched them from a few steps away, a small smile on his face. Despite the uncertainty that hung over them, moments like this reminded him why they had to do everything they could to protect each other. This bond was worth fighting for, no matter the cost.

"Jungkook-ah! Come here once," Namjoon called him out Jungkook hearing his name being called went to meet Namjoon.

"Hyung what is it?"

"Confess ur love Jungkook" Namjoon replied as he kept his hand on Jungkook's soldiers. "If not now," Namjoon added "You will regret it in future".

"But Hyung if I do now and get rejected wouldn't that effect our friendship?"

"You have the right to worry kook but I am telling u, nothing of what you are thinking will happen so just take the risk and claim it."

"I'll tr—"

"NAHH YOU ARE JUNGKOOK!"

"Ok Hyung I will..." Jungkook chuckled but understood that Namjoon had a point and that he needs to finally do something about this.

As the group finally pulled apart, each of them felt the gravity of the situation settle back in. It wasn't goodbye. Not yet. But it still hurt to part ways, knowing the challenges that awaited them.

With one last lingering look at each other, they each headed off in their separate directions, the weight of their promise keeping them grounded.
