Alice and Julie remained standing on a rocky platform, only a hundred feet away from the gate to Aquales. It remained firmly shut on its own platform stretching far to the ocean depths beneath; the foundation of the city itself. A body of water quietly sat between each structure, which the girls must figure out how to cross without touching it. A task that seemed to puzzle Alice and made her recount what Axel had told them moments before.

"So let me say this again, we're supposed to cross this stretch of water without touching it, entirely from where we stand? With nothing to use?"

"Hmmm", Julie pondered to herself, her hand on her cheek deep in thought.

Alice continued complaining in the background, "Like, there's nothing for us to build with so we can construct anything. The rock we're standing on can't be lifted or moved out of the water - it's more like a boulder actually. And...."

Julie cut her off, "Alice, I already told you, you're going about this all wrong. Think about what we do have. You're making it harder than it needs to be."

Julie pointed to the scepter in her hand and was determined she had figured out the answer to the puzzle.

"I don't think Axel knew what kinds of powers we possessed, but maybe Gramps gave him some kind of indication when he was contacted. This training is supposed to enhance our skills after all." She concluded.

"You mean, you're gonna use magic to cross the water?" Alice asked.

"Exactly! We don't have materials to build and we can't leave this platform, but we can use the magic I already possess. That's the answer to the problem," Julie stated. "I can control the elements from this scepter, so let's just control the water and push it out of the way."

Julie motioned to Alice to stand back as she positioned herself into a strong stance facing the water - legs firm and feet planted on the ground. Shifting both arms outward with her scepter aligned perfectly straight in front of her, she gripped it firmly with both hands and called out a water spell, "Water Shift!"

Her goal was to separate the liquid and, hopefully, to reveal a path that could be walked across down the middle. The water would remain suspended as walls around them if successful, allowing the two to reach the other side. Slowly, Julie concentrated the magic in her body to the point of her scepter and began cutting the water, creating a break in the top of its surface.

"Whoa, it looks like it's working Julie!" Alice exclaimed.

Julie continued focusing her energy directly into the center of the water, which continued deepening the rift. The rippling effect caused salty droplets to spray around in the air, showering the gate and the girls themselves. However, as confident as Julie was in her ability to move the water, an issue quickly arose.
