The multiverse was at peace. The good guys and bad guys had formed a truce, and all fighting had ceased between the two sides. For some, this meant getting on with their lives. For others, it meant finding a new purpose.
For Ink, it meant being forced into a room with five year olds for several hours every day.
Nightmare had insisted that Ink learned how to read, and no one else had the time for it, landing the poor guy in a kindergarten class with people he couldn't relate to-
Okay, maybe he could relate to that one kid who just knocked the whiteboard down - that looked fun. The teacher wasn't so happy about it, but that wasn't Ink's problem! No, Ink's problem was more important than anything such as that..Ink's problem was the stupid kids who kept stealing his stuff! Whenever Ink would make something for himself to enjoy (such as colorful blocks, balloons, or pretty pencil cases), those little demons would lay claim to them almost immediately, and Ink would never get to use his stuff! Even hissing at these little twerps wouldn't deter them; they thought it was funny! While Ink did have a remarkable sense of humor, it seemed that his funny bone was getting in the way of his enjoyment of this place!
Well..Ink would just have to remedy that.
On the fifth day of school, Ink sat down at his desk with the other students, as he always did, and he made himself a nice big box of crayons, setting it in the middle of his desk with an innocent smile. Predictably, every five year old in the room immediately locked eyes onto the prize, and a debate began about who was going to get it.
"Children, please, it's time to continue learning about the alphabet!" The teacher tried to curb the discussion. "Who wants to sing the song?"
Alas, no one wanted to sing the song; the room was filled with shouts of, "Mine!" and, "I want it!" Ink kept his innocent smile on, though; he certainly wouldn't have anything to do with the events that would come about as a result of this! The bickering continued until students started to get up from their seats to grab the box of crayons, and as they started to form a crowd, Ink crouched down a little to hide his height (he loved his short status!) and navigated the flood of youngsters, going to each desk methodically and grabbing all the stuff that had been stolen from him before; he was going to get it all back! He had to hold himself back from letting out a maniacal laugh as the kindergarteners opened the box of "crayons" and were met with firecrackers, causing a stir among the classroom that involved screams and panicking. Unfortunately, Ink could not hold himself back, and he let out the best evil laugh he could as the five year olds ran about in terror and their teacher tried to call for help.
Revenge was a dish best served with fear, after all!
"He did what?" Dream blinked, turning to stare at Ink, who had been placed in the time-out corner to sulk; his glare burned into the floor hotter than the firecrackers had earlier.
"I told you he needed a private tutor." Nightmare rolled his eyelight. "But no, 'Ink is a well-balanced individual who can control himself'!"
"I.." Dream couldn't come up with anything to say in response to that. "We'll..I'll clean the room..and pay for the damages..a-and medical bills.."
"Thank you.." The teacher sighed, one arm heavily bandaged from burns. "And, um..we don't typically expel kidergarteners, especially on first offenses, but.."
Dream nodded solemnly. "I'll get him a tutor.."
"At last, he sees reason!" Nightmare exclaimed, with an exasperated expression. "You'd better act fast, before word of this event gets out - no one in their right mind is going to want to teach that idiot his letters after they hear about this."
"Why can't you do it?" Dream half-pleaded. "You're teaching me!"
"You're my twin brother, and it's honestly embarrassing for me to be seen with your illiterate hide. Ink is some sort of eldritch abomination that we don't fully understand yet, and I'm not going to put my life on the line for his sake."
"..." Dream lowered his skull. "Fair."
"I want candy!" Ink whined. "When are we going home?"
Dream really needed to secure a tutor fast..
