As the days of kindergarten went by, Katsuki Bakugou and Shoto Todoroki formed an unexpected bond during playtime and activities. The two boys, each different from the other, found comfort in being together. Bakugou's fiery personality often made him want to take charge, while Todoroki's calm nature helped keep things balanced, even if they didn't fully understand it yet.
One sunny afternoon, as the children gathered on the playground, the atmosphere was filled with laughter and the sounds of feet pattering against the ground. The swings creaked under the weight of giggling kids, while others chased each other in a game of tag. Bakugou, determined to show off, had taken to the monkey bars, showcasing his agility to anyone who would watch.
"Look at me! I'm the king of the playground!" he shouted, gripping the bars with fierce determination. Todoroki, sitting on a nearby bench, couldn't help but smile slightly at his friend's antics.
After a particularly impressive swing, Bakugou dropped down and strutted over to Todoroki. "Did you see that? I was awesome!" he proclaimed; his voice filled with pride.
"Yeah, you were pretty good," Todoroki admitted, his voice steady, yet a hint of amusement danced in his heterochromatic eyes.
"Pretty good? I was amazing!" Bakugou retorted, crossing his arms defiantly.
As they sat on the bench, they quietly observed everyone in the park. Bakugou's expression shifted, a more contemplative look replacing his usual bravado. "You know, icy-hot," he started, glancing sideways at his friend, "when we grow up, I'm gonna be the strongest hero. I'll be number one!"
Todoroki, intrigued, turned to face Bakugou. "What makes you think you'll be number one?" he asked, genuinely curious.
"Because I'm Bakugou!" he declared, puffing out his chest proudly. "And you know what? When I'm a hero, I'll have my own sidekick. You could be my sidekick, you know, if you wanted to."
The suggestion caught Todoroki off guard. "A sidekick? Why would I be your sidekick?"
"Because you're quiet and strong, and you draw good! We'd make a great team," Bakugou said, a little embarrassed at the fact he came out too kind for his liking.
Todoroki considered this for a moment, then replied, "I guess we could work well together. But I'd rather be your partner than your sidekick."
Bakugou suddenly turned towards him, "No way! Side kick is all your getting half n half" he said, trying to sound annoyed.
Todoroki sighed; he should have expected that. "Fine. I promise I'll always be with you, even when we grow up. And when we do, I'll marry you, Bakugou!"
The statement hung in the air for a moment, the playful seriousness of it making Bakugou blink in surprise. "Huh?" he exclaimed, his heart racing. "Marry me? You're an idiot!" he said trying to sound furious.
"If we get married, we can always be together!" Todoroki insisted, his gaze unwavering. "So, when we're older, I'll marry you."
Bakugou, flustered, turned his head away, trying to hide the faint blush on his cheeks. "Tch, whatever. Just don't think you can boss me around when we're heroes. I'm still gonna be number one!"
"Deal," Todoroki replied, a soft smile gracing his lips.
The two boys sat in comfortable silence, the promise they had made hanging in the air between them like an unbreakable bond. Neither fully understood the significance of their words, but deep down, they felt the weight of the promise solidifying their friendship.
