Storybook endings, fairy tales coming true
Deep down inside we want to believe they still do
And a secret is taught, it's our favorite part of the story
Let's just admit we all want to make it too
Ever ever after
If we just don't get it our own way
Ever ever after
It may only be a wish away
- Ever Ever After by Carrie Underwood
I paced the length of Bruce's private study restlessly, already hearing the guests arriving and heading to the ballroom. Their voices floated past the door, filled with awe at the extravagance of the party. When Jason arrived, I was so startled I actually paused pacing.
"Finally!" Damian exclaimed from one of the stuffed armchairs. "I thought he'd never stop pacing. Now can somebody give me a hand with this blasted bow tie?"
I turned to Jason who raised an eyebrow at me as if to say, don't look at me. I don't even put on my bow tie.
Luckily Tim also walked in through the door, ducking underneath Jason's arms which were still holding it open. "Let me," Tim offered with a serious face, surprising all of us. After all, Damian and he rarely agreed.
Probably noticing our stares as he assisted Damian, Tim sighed. "Bruce said to be on our best behavior tonight. I'm simply following orders."
"Kiss ass," Damian coughed, causing Jason to burst out laughing and me to crack a smile.
"At least one of you will be following my orders tonight," Bruce commented, also walking in.
With all of the Wayne men complete, Jason finally let the doors shut close behind him and sauntered further in. His tuxedo was unbuttoned and his bow tie was nowhere in sight. "What's wrong with you?" he asked me, taking in my fidgeting. "You have this birthday every year, while I don't even remember the last time I wore a tux, yet you're more jittery than I am."
Bruce glanced at me curiously, forgetting to fix his cuff links for a sec. "Are you okay, Dick?"
"Yeah," I replied. "I'm just a bit whelmed. Wally and Artemis sort of have Asteria."
"You are so whipped," Tim commented with a smirk, finally stepping away from Damian to admire his handiwork.
Damian rolled his eyes before glancing down at his now fixed bow tie, while I raised a challenging eyebrow. "Look who's talking, Sandsmark," I bit back, making Tim blush.
Bruce smiled and clapped Tim on the back, letting him know it was nothing to be ashamed of. "Everyone ready?" he asked, turning to all four of us.
"Have all Wayne men actually attended this thing together?" Jason mumbled.
"No because you've always been a snob," I bluntly said. "You never accepted my invite before."
Jason smirked at me. "Seriously, which of your eskrima sticks got shoved up your ass today-"
"Master Jason," Alfred's scolding voice came just as he opened the library doors and heard the last part.
"- or did Asteria make you sleep on the couch last night? Besides, I only accepted the invite because, now, Asteria is here to keep you and Damian in check." Jason continued, ignoring Alfred.
