It's almost a week since the supposed meetup date with Miah, which went horribly wrong. And until now, I hadn't talked to both Ion and Lance yet. You could say I need more time to be ready to see them. Anyway, I was getting super bored already. Why? My boss advised me to take a month-long leave of absence from work. And since last week, I hadn't gotten out of Miah's unit. At the moment, I was waiting for him in the living area as he was getting ready to leave for his schedule today.
Right... I tried filing for resignation a few days ago. After what I found out last time, and siguro dahil na rin sa pagod dulot ng more than 3 years of working nonstop, the stress and everything took a toll on me. Nawalan ako ng ganang magtrabaho — I lost the drive, and I could no longer see myself working diligently because of my current state of mind.
FEW DAYS EARLIER
I was waiting for my Boss at his office to talk about my resignation I sent via email. He asked if I could stop by, and I agreed. Walang schedule si Miah today so he took Euphy para maihatid ako sa aming office building. He's probably waiting at a nearby cafe — Sabi niya kasi hintayin niya na lang daw akong matapos kesa bumalik pa siya.
Hindi nagtagal, bumukas ang pinto at pumasok ang taong hinihintay ko kanina pa. Without thinking, I stood up from my seat and smiled. "Hi Boss, good afternoon."
"Afternoon! Come on now, no need for formalities — We're friends, right? Just sit." He cheerfully teased me. Okayyy. Gwapo talaga 'tong mokong na 'to... Chinito, matangkad at mukhang mabango. If I remembered correctly, he's about the same age as Miah? And to be honest, may crush ako sa kanya dati — Pero wala na I swear! Babaero kasi masyado at sobrang landi pa, kaya na-turn off ako. But that's part of the reason why I accepted his offer when he interviewed me for my application before, aside from the salary. Fineee, ako na talaga ang marupok. Hayyy.
Without saying anything, I sat as he said and tried to put on a smile. Umupo rin naman siya kaagad nang marating ang kanyang upuan.
"So Amiel, kumusta? How are things?" Usisa niya habang tila'y may binabasa sa monitor ng kanyang iMac, bago muling itinuon ang atensyon sa akin.
"Okay naman po at the moment — I think?" Alangan kong sagot sa kanya. Hindi kasi ako sure if magiging super honest ba ko or not. After all, mahirap magtiwala sa mga tao, especially to people you just work with. Well, in this case, the person I work for since boss ko siya.
"Hmmmm. Why unsure?" Halata sa mukha niya ang kuryosidad mula sa aking tinuran.
"Uhm. Kind of complicated, Boss... Let's just say I can't really focus on working because of personal stuff..."
"Is that why you're resigning?"
"Yes po... I think it's only fair since I can no longer give my best to perform my duties..."
"You know that's what I like about you..."
That totally caught me off-guard. Sobrang out of nowhere kasi. "Po?"
"You don't just work for the sake of work... You always give your all — That's why our clients for the projects you handle are satisfied with the kind of service we provide for them." He smiled at me, but I could also tell that he was serious about what he just said.
Kaya naman, nakaramdam ako ng bahagyang pagkahiya — Hindi ko kasi inexpect makatanggap ng ganitong papuri mula sa aking boss. "B-Boss... I-I think you're giving me too much credit — I'm not the only one working on those projects. We got a whole team dedicated to each..."
He let out a deep sigh before talking again. "Amiel, remind me. When did we start offering social media management?"
"After I got hired?"
