"Unforeseen Circumstances"
As he was done bathing, he came out wearing his robe. His hair and body were wet while I, on the other hand, was busy preparing his clothes that he would be wearing in the recognition ceremony.
Unexpectedly, he went behind me, whispering in my ear, "When did I receive such fancy outfits?"
I was surprised for a bit. "Zole! You shouldn't sneak up on someone like that."
He chuckled, "Why are you so shocked? My door is locked, and both of us are the only ones in this room."
I faked a cough. "Sorry about that, I was probably too serious in arranging this properly."
"It is fine, you were just doing your job."
As he was standing there, I asked, "What are you doing? You can take off your robe now."
His world stopped for a moment as he thought, Huh... Did I hear that correctly?
To make sure that he wasn't daydreaming, he questioned once more, "Can you perhaps repeat what you told me?"
"I just said you can take off that robe now."
At that very moment, his face became red. "How can you say something like that so easily?!"
I was confused. "Why are you so flustered? We're both boys. It's not that serious, to be honest."
"Still, you don't usually do stuff like this."
"Ohhh, okay. You were probably taken aback. Well, to explain briefly, the head maid asked me to dress you up because the clothing that you are wearing needs to look its finest, and she wanted me to help you."
He looked to the other side with a flustered expression and requested, "Can you at least turn around when I put on my undergarments? I'm very much new to all of this."
"Okay, if you feel more comfortable doing that, I shall follow your words."
I turned around as he added, "Stay like that until I say you can look back. Got it?"
I was amused by what he said.
When he was done, he told me, "You can turn around now."
Looking at him, he was topless. I could still see that he was avoiding my eye contact, but it didn't bother me since this was my first time doing something like this with him, so he's probably not comfortable with it yet.
*Sighs*
"I'm sorry, Zole, for doing this. I just can't decline an order from the head maid."
He was looking down to cover his embarrassed face. "Don't worry, Lewis. You are allowed to do whatever you want to me. It's just that... I need time to adjust to what's happening right now."
When everything was finally over, he stared at himself in the mirror. He then kept thinking.
Why was I so nervous to do that? We're both males, I shouldn't be reacting like this.
After some time, he uttered, "Can you grab a brooch for me from my drawer?"
"Sure, no problem."
Upon searching for it, I wasn't able to find the object.
"Zole, where did you place it? I don't see anything that looks like a brooch here."
"It's in that gold box, you'll see it once you open it."
Ahhh, so it was there all along. It's probably very precious since he's hiding this item very securely.
As I lifted the lid of the box, I saw the exact same brooch that I had given him 2 years ago.
I was shocked upon seeing it. "Wait, isn't this the thing I gave you a few years back? Zole, are you really sure you want to wear this? It's old, and the colors have faded."
He came to me and put the brooch on himself, "Anything that you give me is a treasure of mine, and I will not be ashamed to wear it in front of anyone."
Wow... I never thought he would value that so much. I just thought of it as a gift that he would throw away, but unexpectedly, he is still keeping it safe as if its a rare item or something.
"Thank you, Zole."
As he was ready to go to the party, I stated, "You can head there first because I still need to change my attire, since of course, it's a grand celebration for our beloved crown prince, my master, so I wanna look good."
He was bitter after hearing that statement. "Hah, beloved? Lewis, you know better than anyone that they only like me when I became something, but at those times when I was nothing but a sickly child, not one of them cared whether I would die or not."
I reminded him, "To be fair, when I first got here, I did see a few servants who informed and pleaded that you should have a meal and drink the health potion, so don't generalize it. Some people were genuine in their actions, they just didn't know how to handle you. Fortunately I had patience so I was lucky."
"You are right about that, but can you blame me? After I noticed that the empress was ordering a few servants to put poison in my food and drinks, I couldn't trust anybody."
"But you put faith on a mere stranger whom you had never met before to become your personal servant?"
His voice became genuine. "Don't say such things. You were persistent with me, and I liked that about you. Also, I believe the words that you told me two years ago, and I will never doubt you no matter what."
I smiled. "I'm glad I became your servant. But... enough chit-chat, you need to go now."
He insisted, "I can wait for you so we can go together."
I pushed him outside the door. "You are the star of today's recognition ceremony, so you need to go there early."
"But..."
I was serious. "No buts, Zole."
He was disappointed. "Fine, but when you're finished, come to me immediately, okay?"
"I will, don't worry about it."
When he left, I went to my room and changed my attire. After I was done tidying myself up, I came out and closed the door.
Out of the blue, as I was attempting to leave, suddenly an individual came right in front of me.
I stopped, staring at the person whos standing just outside my doorstep. He was looking back, focusing his gaze towards mine.
He grinned and bowed while gently grabbing my left hand.
Surprisingly, he pressed his lips onto it, telling me, "You don't know how much I've missed you, Lewis."
