The early morning sun began to filter through the trees, casting golden rays across the forest floor. I woke slowly, still nestled against Leo’s warm body, the events of the previous night replaying in my mind. The bond between us was undeniable, and yet there were so many unanswered questions.
Leo stirred beside me, his silver eyes meeting mine the moment he awoke. For a long moment, we just lay there, the silence comfortable, yet filled with the weight of everything unsaid.
“You’ve been through a lot,” he said softly, his voice gentle but firm. “But now that we’ve found each other, I want you to know I’ll protect you. No matter what.”
I blinked, still adjusting to the intensity of our connection. “But why now? Why didn’t I sense you before? There’s so much I don’t understand, Leo. About you… about us.”
He sat up, his expression thoughtful. “It’s complicated, Maya. I didn’t expect to find you like this either. But fate has its way of bringing things together when the time is right.”
Lyra stirred in my mind, urging me to trust him, even as the questions swirled. He’s hiding more than just his strength, Maya. Listen to him.
I turned fully to face him, my curiosity getting the better of me. “Tell me more about you, about your pack. And… your wolf. I don’t even know his name.”
A small smile touched his lips, and he nodded. “I suppose you deserve to know a little more. My name is Leo, as you know, and I’m the Alpha of the Silvermoon Pack. We’re one of the largest packs in this region, and I’ve been leading since I was eighteen.”
His gaze flickered, and for a moment, I saw the weight of responsibility he carried. He continued, “My wolf’s name is Fenrir. He’s… strong, sometimes too strong. But we work well together. He’s been restless these past few years, ever since we started searching for you.”
The mention of his wolf’s name made something stir within me, a recognition that went beyond the bond we shared. Lyra, always present, growled softly in my mind. Fenrir… I’ve heard that name before. He’s powerful, Maya, and more connected to you than you realize.
“I didn’t know,” I whispered, my heart racing. “I didn’t know that you were looking for me. That your wolf… Fenrir… was searching for mine.”
Leo reached out, gently taking my hand. “Now that I’ve found you, everything makes sense. The years of searching, of feeling incomplete—it all led to this moment.”
His touch was warm, comforting, and I felt a strange calm wash over me. “I’ve been through so much, Leo,” I said, my voice trembling slightly. “I don’t even know how to trust this, how to trust you.”
Leo’s gaze softened. “You don’t have to trust everything right away. But I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere. We’ll figure this out together.”
His words settled deep within me, a promise I hadn’t realized I needed to hear. The world was still uncertain, full of danger, but in this moment, with him by my side, I felt like I had found something I had been missing all my life.
Fenrir’s name echoed in my mind, and I knew that this was only the beginning of understanding the deeper connection we shared.
For now, though, it was enough. I had found my mate, and in time, we would unravel the mysteries that tied us together.
