Gwynn answered her phone, her voice filled with relief as she heard her dad's voice.
"Yes, Dad?" she responded.

Gwynn's dad's voice came through the phone, sounding worried. "San si Maeve, Gwynn?"
Gwynn, still feeling concerned for her sister, answered quickly to put her dad at ease.
"Nandito sa bahay, Dad," she said. "Natutulog."
"Sige, bantayan mo muna kapatid mo," her dad said. "Bukas pa kami ng mom mo uuwi."
Gwynn, understanding what her dad asked, replied, "Opo, Dad."

Maeve PovMaeve slowly sat up in bed, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. She glanced at the clock on the wall and saw that it was already afternoon. She got up and made her way to the kitchen, where she found her sister Gwynn eating.
Gwynn looked up and greeted her, "Maeve gising kana pala,"
Maeve greeted her with a weak smile and a soft "Hi ate."
Gwynn, upon seeing her younger sister enter the room, took a pause from eating and asked, "How are you, Maeve?" Her voice was filled with genuine concern.
Maeve forced a weak smile and replied, "I'm fine," her voice betraying the fact that she was far from it.
Gwynn, noticing the facade that Maeve was trying to maintain, spoke firmly and gently.
"Don't lie to me, Maeve," she said. "I know you. You're saying you're fine, but I know you're not."
Maeve's voice raised slightly, her frustration and pain starting to show.
"I said I'm fine, ate!" she repeated, her tone defensive.
Gwynn, taken aback by Maeve's outburst, tried to calm her down gently.
"Okay, okay," she said in a soothing tone, "Just don't shout, okay?"
After a few moments of silence, Maeve spoke up, her voice soft and curious.
"Bakit andito ka, ate?" she asked "I thought you're busy."
Gwynn responded, her voice filled with concern.
"I came here to check on you," she said, her tone gentle and caring. "The dance instructor called Dad and said that you missed the dance class on the previous day. So he called me and asked me to check on you."
"Also, Mom and Dad will be back tomorrow," Gwynn added, her voice gentle and reassuring.
Maeve replied, her voice filled with confusion.
"Akala ko next month pa sila uuwi?"
Gwynn nodded, her expression showing that she, too, believed that their parents were returning next month.
"Akala ko nga rin," she agreed, her voice tinged with surprise.
Gwynn continued, her voice light and cheerful,
"Oh, by the way, Maeve," she said. "Do you want to come with me?"
Maeve, her curiosity piqued, asked, "Saan naman?"
Gwynn revealed her plans with a smile, "Japan," she answered, "it's for my birthday photoshoot."
Maeve, suddenly realizing something, exclaimed, "Sh*t. I forgot it's almost your birthday!" Her eyes widened with realization.
Gwynn chuckled, amused by Maeve's reaction.
"Haha, okay lang."
Gwynn continued, a hint of curiosity in her tone,
"Oh, btw. Cute nung friend mo..," she said.
Maeve responded, her voice puzzled,
"Sino don?"
Gwynn continued with a smirk, her expression amused,
"Yung friend mo na nagulat na gulat kanina nung pag dating ko?"
Maeve's face lit up in recognition,
"Oh Si Shan" she said, a small smile spreading across her face.
Gwynn inquired, her interest piqued,
"Shan? That's her name?"
Maeve shrugged, a smirk on her face,
"Yep," she replied. "Gusto mo?"
Gwynn chuckled, her voice filled with amusement,
"Nagtatanong lang, gusto agad!" she mimicked, her voice playful.
Maeve couldn't help but laugh at her sister's response, her heart feeling a little lighter.
Gwynn teased, her voice filled with jest,
"Ayan, tumawa ka. Wag yung parang zombie!"
Maeve protested with mock annoyance, her voice playful,
"Grabe naman sa parang zombie!"
Gwynn retorted with a smirk, her tone firm,
"Totoo naman, kung nakikita mo lang sarili mo kanina,"
"Maliligo na nga ako", Maeve announced before standing up from her seat.
Gwynn playfully replied, her tone light and lighthearted,
"Sige, ligo well."

Gwynn, watching her sister as she headed upstairs to take a shower, found herself deep in thought.
"Mavis... huh.." she thought to herself.
