"That was so much fun. We should go shopping together more often." Gracie said as you turned down the street.

"We should!" You gleefully agreed.

Your wife Taylor has a few days off today and originally you planned to stay home with her and spend some time together.

But Taylor was extremely exhausted today and said she was probably going to spend the day sleeping in bed and that you should go out for a while if you wanted.

Gracie had called to see if you and Taylor wanted to do some shopping but since Taylor just wanted to rest, you decided to go out shopping with Gracie by yourself.

You're just now arriving home and you had assumed that Taylor was in bed sound asleep.

What you didn't expect though, as you and Gracie talked and laughed together as you got closer to the house, was to see smoke coming from nearby.

"Whoa, what's with all of the smoke?" Gracie asked as she looked around.

Your heart dropped a second later as you pulled into the driveway to see your' and Taylor's house on fire.

"Oh, my god!" You said and got out of the car. "Do you see Taylor? Where's Taylor?"

"I don't see her!" Gracie panicked. "Call for help!"

She was going to run inside and see if she could find Taylor.

But Taylor is your wife and you felt that it was you that should be going in there in search of her.

"Don't! You call for help, I'm going to go in!"

The fire was only getting worse as a couple of the windows broke and glass shattered everywhere.

You didn't even stop to think about what could happen if you ran into a burning house.

You didn't care at all.

Your wife was in there and you were going to help her, nothing was going to stop you.

Gracie was in a panic as she called emergency services and watched you run inside.

You coughed as the smoke-filled your lungs.

It wasn't easy to see what was around you because it was so smoky.

"Tay?" You yelled before coughing again. "Tay!"

"Y/N, help!"

You ran to where her voice was coming from and reached the bedroom door.

You tried to open the door and get inside but it was stuck.

"Taylor, hang on!"

You could hear her coughing and begging for help as you tried to open the door but eventually, you just busted your way in by shoving your body against it a couple of times.

"Taylor, I'm here!" You yelled as you stepped inside.

You tripped along the way, banging your knee against the dresser.

"Ouch!"

You yelled before coughing again as the smoke continued to fill the room.

"I've got you." You said as you reached Taylor's side.

You took her hand and led her out of the house just as the firetruck, police, and ambulances pulled up.

This was a very rare occasion when the cats were staying with Taylor's mom just to let her catch up on a little rest so it brought you relief that Taylor and the cats were unharmed by the fire.

However, you were a little confused as to how it started.

"What happened?" You asked Taylor, hugging her tightly. "Do you know how it started?"

She looked guilty as she pulled away to look at you.

"I was so exhausted... I think I fell asleep while I was cooking something. I remember putting it on the stove but it said it was going to take a while so I went to lay down in bed. I had a timer with me. I think I slept through it."

"Oh, baby," You spoke as you watched tears fill your eyes.

"It was just an accident, I swear." She sniffled.

"I know. It's okay." You assured her as you hugged her again. "It could've been worse."

"You saved my life." She said as she squeezed you. "You hurt your knee and breathed in a lot of smoke! Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. My knee hurts but I'll be fine. I'm just glad you will be too."

You and Taylor continued to hold onto each other as Gracie joined in on the hug.

It was a very scary situation but you also feel very thankful that you got home when you did because had you not, things might've ended very differently.

You and Taylor lost your home... but if you hadn't gotten home at that exact moment, you probably would've lost Taylor, too.

That would've been your worst nightmare.

Because you and Tay can replace everything in the house and you can always buy another home.

But you could never find another Taylor and you couldn't be more grateful that she's okay.
