“I was seriously mistaken about you. From the beginning, I should have locked you up in a cage with about five locks. Then again, you were wandering dangerously around the Duke’s mansion without even accepting my pheromone mark that day. There were plenty of potential problems from the start, and now I regret ever leaving you alone in a place like this.”

Hadeon swept his wet hair back and laughed self-deprecatingly, as if in disbelief.

This was not the usual Hadeon who treated everything lightly like a passing joke. The relaxed smile that always lingered on his lips, even in the most precarious situations, was gone, as was the playful glint in his eyes when he looked at her. None of that was to be found.

The intense energy radiating from him was so violent that Elysia felt a shivering tension just being near him.

With difficulty, she managed to part her lips.

“I don’t understand why you’re so angry.”

Hadeon raised an eyebrow and glared at Elysia.

“Do you want me to tell you now?”

However, faced with Elysia’s immediate question, Hadeon seemed momentarily at a loss for words.

“Is it because of my blood? Because if I die, I’ll be completely useless?”

She recalled the time when the nobles referred to her as an object, and Hadeon hadn’t denied it.

“Are you worried because I won’t be worth the expensive price anymore?”

Even though she knew she looked more pitiful than a drenched rat, and that asking such a question was cowardly and petty, Elysia couldn’t stop her lips from moving. In Hadeon’s view, her transparent face, soaking wet under his large jacket, and her big eyes that looked like they were about to spill tears, came into focus.

“Yes.”

Even as he answered, Hadeon felt something like a thorn stuck in his throat.

“It’s all because of your blood. You need to remember that you can’t die recklessly.”

Unconsciously, Hadeon tightened his grip on Elysia’s chin and his rough words.

If he lowered his head just a little more, his lips would surely touch hers.

At that moment, Hadeon felt an irresistible desire rising. He needed a stronger intensity to ignore it.

Hadeon, unwilling to admit it, raised his voice.

“Why that face? Am I wrong? While I’m paying for you, you need to realize that every part of your body is not yours. Every bit of you is something I paid for. These eyes, this nose, these cheeks….”
