He continued to stab Elysia’s heart with his words.

“Isn’t it my right to meet the child I’m sponsoring? Isn’t that fair? Who do you think has been paying for his education all this time?”

Elysia widened her eyes and clenched her jaw in disbelief at his words. Hadeon, meeting her gaze, also frowned.

He scoffed.

“Ha. Why are you crying? Did you think that hiding this from your brother would make you a pure and flawless bride like any other maiden in the parish? Even after all we’ve done together.”

Elysia’s lips trembled at the insulting words.

At that moment, Elysia realized what he was talking about. He was bringing up the time she had asked him to help her get married.

“… Is this because I told you I wanted to get married back then? But you didn’t say anything at the time. Why now… You were the one who agreed to the first ‘outing.’”

Elysia managed to retort, but even that was cruelly crushed by Hadeon.

“Yes, I did. I think I found it amusing at the time. The idea that my lover wanted to find a marriage partner while still involved with me seemed quite audacious. Not anymore, though.”

“What do you mean?”

“I lost interest quickly. I got bored.”

To her surprise, Elysia found herself deeply hurt by his words. Her heart ached at her own reaction.

It felt as if she was acknowledging that she had been nothing but a toy for him to play with and discard. It made her believe that all the affection he had shown was false.

“Now, do you understand your situation, Elysia? I suppose I’ve been too lenient.”

Hadeon muttered in a cold voice, as if to drive the point home.

He slowly approached Elysia. She took a step back for every step he took forward, until she was backed up against the sofa, unable to move any further. Tears began to well up in her eyes.

“You only have about two more outings left, right? Regardless, the contract will soon end, so you should hurry and prepare the next quarter’s contract. I am quite rich.”

Elysia’s pupils shook violently.

“What do you mean by that?”

Hadeon smirked arrogantly.

“You’re dreaming of marrying some ‘ordinary’ man, aren’t you? Regardless of my lost interest, I promised to continue our agreement as part of my personal charity work. You should be grateful. Isn’t that generous?”
