Dear readers, hope you enjoy my story.
"Was she there?" The boss from the other line asked.
"No but is there any other way to get to your brother?" Dean asked.
"No. He has a much tougher security and the media is always flocking around him. If he finds out his daughter is murdered, he will loss his sense of living. That's the easiest way to deal with him."
"Yes but can I stay in this town for a while. I suspect something about this place."
"Affirmatively but don't delay the mission. Remember, your life depends on this." He said, and hung up.
"Why did I falter? Why did I spare her? I've taken countless lives without hesitation, men and women alike. So why did this one woman stay my hand?" he wondered, questioning his own resolve.
"Mariah, I apologize for yesterday. Please forgive me." Lisa said lowering her head.
"You could've just been nicer to me than to vent you anger on me."
"I'm so sorry. Please forgive me. You are the only person I have in this world and the only person who I can rely on." Lisa openly said.
Mariah who couldn't resist her pleading gave her a warm hug.
"How can I be mad at my mistress?" She asked."I'm more than a mistress to you, ain't I?"
"Let me just give you that respect, my lady." Mariah said as they all burst into laughter.
"Crack!" An unknown item made.
"What's that?" Lisa asked terrified.
"It's just the vase on the table that fell. Let me go clean it up." Mariah said as she walked out of her room.
"I fear I'll spend my final days as a blind, miserable teenager, confined within these suffocating walls of a home, with my dreams and aspirations forever unfulfilled." She thought.
"Mistress, your tutor is here." One maid said as she bowed her head.
"Coming." Lisa said bored.
"Why is my life so boring and lonely? Every morning goes the same way. I wake up and clean myself and get ready for breakfast alone. Wait for my private tutor who teaches me for six cruel hours, have lunch before piano lessons and last but not the least, taekwondo lessons begins. The only time I have fun is when Mariah and I walk around the garden at dusk or play chess and other board games."
"My days are a never-ending blur of loneliness. Each day blends together in an endless cycle. I wake up, rinse, repeat. Six grueling hours with my tutor, punctuated by lunch, piano, and taekwondo. The highlight of my day? A fleeting walk with Mariah in the garden or a chess match. Is this really living?"
"My lady, you're here." The voice of her private tutor disrupted her thoughts.
"I'm your student. Stop calling me 'my lady'. Lisa will be much better. It's not as if we are in the medieval times."
"Sorry my l........I mean Lisa. Let's proceed."
"Yes, I have never been outside this prison they call my home but to me. I remembered how I used to persist on going out as a kid." She thought as her tutor spoke.
"Believe me when I say I've been longing for freedom but unfortunately, I've resigned myself to a life of confinement. Death seems to linger, a constant presence due to my family's past. My grandfather's and father's involvement in illicit activities has made me aware that I'm hunted by many. Sometimes, I wonder if death would be a welcome escape from this isolation. If only my mother were alive, perhaps my fate would have been different. But here am I, trapped."
