Dakotas POV❤️
Weddings have never been my thing. They're always too over emotional as if the two people haven't been with each other long enough to just consider them married already. Buying the most expensive outfits for like an hour is outrageous and don't even get me started on the wedding locations.
But of course, when my bestfriend, Jamie, told me he was hanging up his player ways for this woman I was shocked to say the least. He's a good looking guy, tall, black and was D1 in college for basketball, waved hair like the ocean and pearly white teeth. He's always been a player. Never even had a relationship from the time we met in 4th grade. Shit we even made a pack saying we'd get married to each other if we don't by 30. Well that was before I came out as gay in middle school he was shocked. But not as shocked as me when he asked me to be his best woman. It's like the best man but since I'm not a man, yeah you get it. But naturally I said yes. The only thing is with this is that I haven't met this woman yet. Why you ask? Because I've been traveling ever since they basically started dating 2 years ago and haven't had time to meet her. I knew about her, we've said our hi's and byes and I've heard her voice in the background of our phone calls but that's it. And here's the kicker, he didn't tell me about the wedding until 2 nights ago. I rushed a plane ticket and came home from Belize back to New York. He's such a great friend.
So as of right now I have my head hanging off the back rest of the couch in the dressing room of the church, with my eyes closed trying to take a nap as we wait for the wedding planner, Kim, to let us know we're on. "I'm nervous Koda." Jamie says as he paces the room.
I hear his steps and visualize him fanning his armpits from sweat. "JJ please stop." I groan with my eyes still closed.
"I mean I'm ready but what if she isn't? What if she doesn't walk? Fuck what if she runs right when it's time to say I do?!" He panics and I take that as the time to get up. Time to do my job.
"Hey look at me." I say calmly with my eyes lazily low. He continues to pace and my eyes follow his 6'1 figure compared to my 6'0 frame, bored . I grab him by the shirt and collar and force him to look at me. "Jamie stop! You asked me to take a last minute flight because you are in love with Raven! And you know what else?" He shakes his head. "She loves you too man. Otherwise she wouldn't have planned all this. I know your small minded ass didn't." I say and I see him nod and take a breath. I breathe with him and let him go. "Now, if you wake me up one more time with this nonsense, you'll be on the alter having to explain to your wife why the left side of your face has the print of my hand." I smile fixing him back up presentable.
I sit back down on the couch and lean my head back and close my eyes. "Thanks Koda." I throw up a thumbs up.
Just as I was about to fall into a deep sleep the door opens harshly. "You're on Jamie! Its time!" Kim yells obnoxiously loud.
"Thanks Kim. I'm ready." Jamie says. I lazily get up from the couch and walk with them.
"Hey." Kim says turning me to her. The next thing I feel a sting on my cheek. SMACK!
I look down at the woman 5'4 with fair skin, beauty mark on both sides of her slim hazel nut eyes, and short black bob. "What the fuck, Kim?!" I say holding my cheek.
"You are not about to fall asleep at your own bestfriends wedding. Are you good now?" She says. I just nod to hold myself from cussing this short girl out. She pushes me out so I walk out after the rest of the party on both sides. I walk out with the maid of honor who is Ravens older sister, Jasmine. If Raven looks anything like her sister , then she's gorgeous. Jasmine has bone straight brown hair, enticing siren like green eyes with specks of brown and chocolate dark skin blessed by the gods itself. She's unfortunately married to a guy named Marcus. Otherwise we'd be somewhere private making her scream my name on the top of her lungs.
"Is she ok?" I ask through my teeth as we walk arm and arm past the guests.
"Yes. Him?" She asks and I nod.
We reach our marks and wait for the two people of the hour. The music starts playing for Jamie and he walks out in his black tux and smiles as he sees all his family and friends. He takes a deep breath as he reaches me and I hold myself from laughing. He turns around and we wait for Raven to come out. "She's coming dude chill out. She'll kill you if you sweat out in this suit." I tell him in his ear and he nods.
The music starts for her arrival and everyone stands and once the doors open revealing her it goes silent. "Wow." I exclaim in a whisper. She's beautiful. Be still my beating heart.
"I know right." Jamie says taking me back remembering I'm looking at his wife. My bestfriends wife.
As she gets closer, our eyes meet for the very first time in two years and her smile gets brighter than what it was when she saw Jamie. "It's so nice to finally meet you in person Dakota!" She says and my hearts warms at her excitement and the way my name rolls off her tongue. I nod not wanting to interrupt the ceremony also not knowing what to say. This woman is breath taking. I feel a sense of happiness and joy for my bestfriend but also an uncomfortable feeling of jealousy. Jealous of what though, is the question.
I stand behind my bestfriend as he sites his loving vows to this gorgeous woman who I haven't taken my eyes off once. The way her greyish blue eyes gleam with her cheeky smile when he says something funny in his speech or the way they water when he says something sweet and they look like a storm but Jasmine hurries and dabs it away. I don't hear anything he says but the priest telling her to site hers, makes me take interest.
"Jamie this past year with you was the most unexpected time of my life. I wasn't expecting to meet such a kinda and pure soul such as you and I definitely didn't think you'd want to marry me. You are my bestfriend and you show me every day I'm yours. Sorry Dakota." Everyone laughs and Jamie taps my stomach and I laugh. "I'm so in love with you. You challenge me for greatness and push me to achieve my goals even if that's just getting out the bed on a Sunday. Here's to us baby. I love you." I hear Jamie says he loves her back.
I try my best to hold in a yawn as the priest continues with the rest of the ceremony. I take a glimpse at Kim and she's staring daggers at me and I straighten up on the brink of tears from holding it in. I feel eyes on me and see Kim looking at me wide eyed and I turn my attention to Jamie who's looking at me. "What?"
"I called for rings." The priest said.
"Oh shit." I whisper and dig into my coat pocket and hand the ring Jamie is supposed to give Raven. Everyone laughs. "Here." He exhales and taps my shoulder saying 'good job'.
They exchange rings and the priest pronounces them as man and wife and they share a passionate kiss with Jamie dipping Raven surprising Jasmine and I, making us both reach to catch them but stop when we see they're fine and come back up. She winks at me and I smirk. "I'm married." Jamie breathes out smiling at me. I hug him proudly. Jamie has been like a brother to me since we were 10 and I'm so happy he's found someone he can spend the rest of his life with. I look over his shoulder and see her and Jasmine hugging and then she turns to me and smiles at me. Just-wow.
