"I'M TELLING YOU, Eryn, he's incredible."

"Okay, but he's like three years older than you!" Eryn says as they walk through the hallway at college in their uniforms. Fuck uniforms, man.

      "So?"

"It's your daddy issues, sweet." Eryn pouts slightly and Madeline screws up her face. "They're acting up again."

      "I don't have daddy issues!" Do I?

"Okay, tell me that when you're not dating a twenty year old in college." Eryn grins and Madeline groans slightly, adjusting her bag on her shoulder as they trudge into the canteen.

"It's not even as bad as it sounds." Madeline rolls her eyes. "And we're not dating."

"Okay, he just picks you up from dance every day and you go on late night drives and walks in the park where he lets you go through his phone."

"That...is beside the point." Madeline huffs, shaking her head. "Besides, I'm eighteen in a month. And if I get my grades, I'll be off to Cambridge in September."

      "Nerd."

     "Fuck you."

After the school day ended, Madeline wanders down to the store to buy some sweets for when she's studying tonight and she gets a text from Tom asking if they can hang out.

She tells him she's studying tonight and he tells her that he'll just sit with her whilst she does. How? By climbing up the goddamn fire exit.

      This is the end.

Going home, Madeline takes a shower and eats dinner with her Mum who's talking about some inspection at work. She's a nurse and works in a hospital around a ten minute tube ride from their apartment.

"I think I'm gonna start dieting." Madeline reveals and Heather raises an eyebrow at her daughter.

"Why, hon?" Heather frowns slightly. "There's nothing to you."

"I know...but it's for ballet, y'know?" Madeline shrugs her shoulders. "It's not just about form, I need to get the right stuff in my food so I'm at peak performance during ballet."

"Okay, babe, just don't overdo it." Heather sighs, eying her daughter worrisomely. It's always a possibility when your kid does ballet, those teachers are cruel and the standards are insane. It's something she's always worried about, Madeline has no reason not to eat whatever she'd like while she's a teenager, nothing she eats could add anything to her.
