"WHAT IF I crash?" Madeline stressed as she sits in the drivers seat of Tom's perfect Audi and Tom grins from beside her.

"You're not gonna crash." Tom rolls his eyes. "You have the best teacher ever: me. And if you do, i can buy another car."

Madeline raises an eyebrow at the man beside her, fidgeting with her hands that rest in her lap. Tom had kept his promise about teaching her how to drive and now they sit in an empty industrial car park and Madeline is on the verge of cardiac arrest...and the car is still stationary.

"So, the pedals." Tom clears his throat, resting his elbow on the centre console and leaning towards her so that he can see the pedals from her view. "From right to left, remember, ABC."

       "ABC?"

"Accelerator, or gas, break and clutch." Tom lists, his breath tickling her ear. "The clutch is used for changing gears." Tom grabs her left hand and places it on the gear stick.

"Alright, alright." Madeline nods, exhaling deeply.

"Now, this is a petrol car." Tom explains to her, looking at her intently. "That means you're more likely to stall. When you put the clutch down to change into first gear, always make sure to find the biting point like I showed you before."

"Biting point." Madeline repeats with a slow nod.

"Then, come off the clutch slowly." Tom emphasises before leaning back in his seat.

       "Then what?"

"Just start with that." Tom says, nodding at her. "Clutch down, baby."

Madeline sighs, gripping the wheel tightly and pushing the clutch in with her left foot, shifting the gear into first.

"Now, find the bite." Tom tells her, relaying the instructions easily. "Once you've got it, release the handbrake and slowly pull your foot off the clutch."

Madeline feels like she could cry. She releases the handbrake and the car jerks immediately and stalls.

      Perfect. Embarrassing as shit.

"I don't wanna do this anymore." Madeline grumbles and Tom chuckles at her depressed reaction.

"It takes time, Mads." Tom assures her, slapping her thigh gently. "Go again."

After about five hundred attempts, Madeline finally manages to get the car to set off at an agonisingly slow speed down the car park. Once she stops, rather abruptly after being told by Tom to break, she turns to Tom with a bright smile.
